Re: Slightly elevated CEA and UTI, reflux, obstruction, no gallbladder

All of the above can cause an elevated CEA. So can hypothyroid. Mine went to 5.8 with clear scans and I'd been pushing for my thyroid to be tested because I was gaining weight even when going to the gym 9 hours a week and eating small portions, etc. I was put on thyroid meds and my next CEA dropped ...

Re: Scan anxiety

I'm allergic to the contrast so I have the CT of my lungs and then wait til my turn to have the MRI of my abdomen. My doctor won't give me the results for a WEEK but the hospital will post the results about four days after and I used to have an oncologist friend in Australia read them for me. Now I'...

Scanxiety and missing Bev!

Bev would give me a good talking to, today. I am going to miss her so much. Okay, so it's been 9 years 9 months and 10 days since my Stage IIIB surgery and 6 years 5 months and six days since my liver resection with all clear since. My CEA / Blood work is Oct. 8th, CT/ MRI on the 16th and visit with...

Re: Hernia? Nope, looks like cancer is back

That's just unbelievable that you were clear in May and have so many spots 3 1/2 months later! I honestly pray that they made an error and the next test will just show the hernia.

I'm so sorry for both of you.

Re: Really hard topic

Someone shared a link to this thread on the post about Bev's passing. I saw so many names that new people won't remember. Many were dx'd long after me and yet have been gone a long time. It hurts, but it's all a fact of life. I reached out to Bev's step daughter, who is a strong woman, and asked her...

Re: Bev G

Bev has been on my heart and in my head for a few months. Last time we 'talked' she had been deathly ill from kidney concerns from her diabetes. I think she said Diabetic Ketoacidosis. It had nothing to do with her cancer CURE. She would want you to know that her regular testing showed her still can...

Re: Any Stage 4 long term survivors/cured ?

My onc said 'cured' in April based on the cure chart that says 6 years after a liver resection with no recurrence is cured and 6 years 4.8 months the chance of a met drops to that of the healthy population who've never had CRC. I'm at that point but will have a final CT in early October then go to a...

Re: Dang 1cm Liver Met!

NO RADIATION! Surgery is the gold standard for a CURE! Here's the study. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamasurgery/fullarticle/398409 I had a 1.4 cm liver met 3 years after my original dx and a hepatic resection with no follow up chemo needed. That was 6 years 4 1/2 months ago. All clear!

Re: Scanxiety Part 1000

How old is your mom? 800 is still a horribly elevated CEA. Has she had a PET Scan? Depending on her age and prior health or other health issues, I would request one. Re the 10 to 12 cm liver tumor: Each radiologist measures differently. This sounds like a 'round off' kind of doctor. 1.5 cm is about ...

Anal cancer is caused by HPV and unrelated to rectal or colon cancer. A dermatologist will biopsy and relieve your fears.

Re: Age 19, colon cancer, did everything t get diagnosed ?

Sounds to me like a fissure which is sort of like a split in the skin in the rectal/ anal area. They bleed and can close up or be like a paper cut, almost invisible. Infants who have these are treated with Desitin.

Re: CEA false positives?

CEA false positives under 10 can be caused by many things. I had a reading of 5.8 about 16 months ago and asked for my thyroid to be checked. My TSH was really off and after 6 months on levothyroxine, my CEA had dropped more than 50%, well into the normal range. My CEA has always been between 2.9 an...

Re: Stage 3 Sigmoid colon cancer metastasized to ovary, bladder, intestines, pelvic mass, unable to do surgery!!!

The usual follow up for Stage III is CT or other imagining and CEA every 6 months for up to 5 years. I think not scanning was a huge mistake on your doctor's part. The massive spread could have been prevented if he/ she had done scans on a regular basis. I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's spread....
