Re: similar board for CML/Gleevec responding cancers (GIST)?

I can't say much about that specific cancer but will tell you that my father-in-law took Gleevec for his CML. it was like a magic bullet for a number of years. It only quit working when he decided not to take it anymore. Good luck on finding support!

Re: Possible colon cancer?

It could be many different things. The only way to know is to get a colonoscopy. Please go see your doctor!

Re: Retirement adventure planned – looking for activities

Cultural differences are very, very real. I'm a fourth generation Californian and left for Texas as soon as I could. For 20 years, I lived all over the country with my Air Force husband. He retired and we moved to Arizona. Hated it. We are back in Texas where I am among people who think like me from...

Re: 2013: Survivor stories

In February of 2011 I finally gave in and had a colonoscopy at age 56. I'd had symptoms for years, but was so afraid of the procedure after my husband had a bad experience. Well, I woke up to be told that there was a mass very low in my rectum. The next month was a blur of scans and tests. A rectal ...

Thank you

Two years ago I was in the midst of tests, scans and more tests. From going into a screening colonoscopy, which I had put off for 6 years due to the colon perforation my husband had gone through during his first scope, to the PET, to the rectal ultrasound (T3 rectal tumor detected and APR recommende...

Re: hate going to funerals of cancer victums when I survived

The morning of my surgery I received word that a beloved member of our Sunday School class had died from Stage 4 Rectal Cancer.. That was not easy, it was Wednesday . On Friday, I got the unbelievable news that I was Stage 0. Chuck's funeral was Saturday. I was so glad to be at his funeral, to carry...

Re: Time Magazine Article

The costs are astounding. I honestly don't know the answer. However, I do know what government healthcare is like. We have had military healthcare or over 35 years. When my husband was 50 the PCP recommended a screening colonoscopy. We were stupid and he agreed to the colonoscopy with a general surg...

Re: Follow up stage 0

I am just about 2 years out from dx. Had a scope last year, will have a digital exam on 1 Mar. My tumor was so low that he can check it with the digital exam. I also had a transanal excision due to location. I have always gotten yearly PAP tests and yearly mammograms. Nothing changed there. If all g...

Re: Stuart Scott

One of the female colon cancer survivors I find that it does annoy e that so many obituaries of "young" people do not mention one word about the cause of death unless it is breast cancer. Why are so many families afraid/shy about the cause of death? Drives me nuts.

Re: New Year Exercise/Weight Loss Goals

I have given up weight lost goals. I am 58 and it is now hard to raise my heart rate at a 15% incline at 3.5 mph on a treadmill. I use weight training twice a week and Master's Swimming (about a mile and a half in one hour) to keep fit and my body is changing from fat that jiggles to lean and strong...

Re: VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY...not invasive method??

I put off my first colonoscopy until age 56 because my husband had a perforation with his at age 50. We have learned so much. His was done by a military surgeon who had only done one other while on active duty. If I had not been strong armed by my civilian GP, my rectal tumor would have been much mo...

Re: Survival Stats on Deceased CC Members

I am one of those who so far was "lucky" to have caught my rectal tumor early. I had to have a transanal excision and I was given a staging of Stage 0. Yes, I was fortunate, especially after being told after a rectal ultrasound that I had a T3 tumor. Almost 2 years later, my CEA is .01' PE...

Re: Concerned over my friend...how bad is this?

One of the hardest things I have ever done as a friend was to shut my mouth. I could tell my friend's husband was sick. He was a walking skeleton and was in tremendous pain. They believed the back pain was from a bad mattress. One time I asked if Stephen had seen his doctor. I was told that it was t...
