Re: I need any suggestions

We have met with Dr. Marshall as a consult...very easy to talk with him. Totally recommend. As DH has learned, SHE has to be her OWN advocate.

Re: Is the day that cheno treatment ...

DH had "nap day" on his "unplug day". He'd get up, eat a little, nap, get disconnected, nap, shower, nap...by dinner time he was better. Next day he was tired but managed to work 1/2 day. I will second the drink a lot of liquids...water, flavored water, tea, lemonade, etc. If you...

Re: Pizza

DH avoids the pepperoni toppings with casings (he also avoids hot dogs with casings, I found skinless ones). But he eats the crumbled sausage and mushroom pizza made at Wegman's and Papa John's, etc, just fine.

Re: My Immunotherapy Consultation at UCSF

S, can you do the OX without the 5FU...just the oxyalplatin? I don't know that 5FU did much for DH but OX was helpful. DH did FOLFOX+Avastin then just 5FU but had to go back to the full FOLFOX after a few months. His blood counts dropped too and he skipped a few rounds along the way. Fingers crossed...

Re: My Immunotherapy Consultation at UCSF

Hi Shana, thanks for the post. Always good to know what's out there. Have you had FOLFOX yet? DH started with that. Did wonders for about 14 months.

Re: 5FU pump

DH often took his pump out of the bag and tucked it in his pants pocket during the day. And at night, he simply tucked it in bed with us. Was a lot easier to manage than managing the bag it came in.

Agreeing with running it under the shirt, do that and it's easier to change clothes.

Re: Does anyone have a little drinky drink during chemo?

DH asked this question today: dr. said it would probably increase quality of life! So they discussed martinis and wine for awhile. As long as DH's liver function is OK, dr. said he could have something on occasion. Bilirubin is down to 2 from 6.4 a month ago and other numbers are improving so a mart...

Re: Symptom management at home

Hey RObin, We asked DH's oncologist the same question...why not drain? The response was to see if Vectabix does its job (so far it's been doing something because his belly is shrinking and the liver function tests are improving) and then maybe do some diurectics later. I've also read that the pocket...

Hi Cyn,

I've seen the socks at Bed Bath Beyond over near the hairdryers and such. Some places call them "spa socks". Amazon calls them moisturizing socks.

Re: Hand and foot syndrome

DH used a lotion with Urea...Eucerin or another good name brand works well to soften the skin which seemed to relieve things. Check the ingredient label. He had bad HFS during Xeloda and finally switched back to infusions. I spread lotion on his feet every evening before bed. You could put the lotio...

Re: Symptom management at home

Does she have edema in the feet/legs? Try compression socks. Really work. Nurse saw DH wearing them on Tuesday and said she wished all her patients wore them. They come in many different levels of compression. You may have to help get them on. Also leg massage, gently stroking up the leg. Google &qu...
