Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

hello SKB - thank you for updating us. like you said, it's so important to see that not all W&Ws continue to see clear results so i appreciate you checking in and letting us know and i am truly so sorry to hear this. i will have to research what VATS is as i am not familiar. i think about the ch...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hello, everyone! I hope all my W&W-ers are staying healthy all around. I haven't been on the board for a while and I need to scroll and update myself after I write this. Every time I get a good scan, I say I should check in here, but then I tell myself I'll wait until the next one (to be sure! d...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Any of the W&W-ers out there experience chronic radiation proctitis? Curious what it feels like at the start? My surgeon’s office tells me I was cleared in late September - and bc I am being examined and scanned so often, they would see any recurrence before I would feel it. AND they say it is e...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Peter! Love this news. Thanks for sharing with us. I have had odd rectal feelings lately (despite the all clear scans in late Sept) so actually just sent my Onc a note right before I saw the notification of your post. I’m hoping these feelings are nothing (radiated rectum can’t handle too much spicy...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene! Great news! Thrilled for you! I have been very hesitant to post, but I just had a check too and I’m in the clear (like right now- at this moment). I really appreciate these few days just post check/scans when you can breathe easy bc you know it’s okay - at least right at this very second....

Re: Post surgery update

Good news about liver! And the job! And doing your job with no issues! I’m impressed. The Xeloda during radiation really messed me up. Lost it on a walk once.

Sorry about hip. I’ve had weird tailbone stuff and I blame it on radiation. I hope you can resolve that soon or ease your pain.

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Sorry! I meant major surgeries. I think the study was targeting breast cancer surgery but don’t recall. I need to research more. I am also interested (besides getting the port out) because I was about to schedule bunion surgery when I was diagnosed. My bunions have gotten really bad and limit my exe...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Watch and Waiters: when did you have your chest port removed (if you had one)? Besides being a little superstitious, I also read an article in a waiting room at MSK that said surgery itself (via the inflammation) can cause (trigger) metastases. (I was called back as I was reading it so I didn’t get ...

Lake swim: You are commenting about newfound hip/pelvis pain following chemo radiation and wondering “What’s up?” I was a physical therapist before chronic ill-health found me and treated many individuals following radiation therapy. Radiation has known effects on the connective tissue that compris...

CF69 - same question here ... colon or rectal?

Jolene - are you in the States or in Europe?

Re: Mop up chemo experiences

Hi Adele, I had my first colonoscopy and an ileioscopy, tube through stone to check out what can’t be seen from below. I have two things, how lucky for me. Diversion colistic and radiation always proctitis, both irritations due to the treatments. The diversion colititus will go away after reversal,...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Rikimaroo... I am so sorry to hear you had the local recurrence. I imagine that must have been devastating for you, but you sound like you have a positive attitude. I am missing where you are in the process? Did you have your surgery? And I’m curious why you want a permanent ileostomy (have to read ...

Re: What surgery should I have?

I'm so glad your surgery went well. One of the surgeons I consulted (@MSK) told me you can't predict the level of LARS someone will have (unless it's a low tumor). And, even then, (IMO) people have different lifestyles (gardening at home vs hiking in the mountains vs. a seafarer like you!), so one l...

Influenza (Flu) after Oxalyplatin

(Note that I titled this "influenza" because when I went to search on FLU, it said that these 3 letters are too common to search.) I have the flu. My first fever/illness since chemo last summer. Yesterday was a little jarring. As soon as the fever came on, my feet/ankles and hands/lower ar...
