Mom took last chemo med before mother's day....

Hi all, Haven't been on in awhile. So my mom took her last chemo med on May 10, 2018. We celebrated on Mother's day and I took her to the beach with my in laws, husband and daughter. She looked so energetic and so happy. I can't believe a year has gone by since her DX, Neoadjuvant radiation, surgery...

Re: Just found out I have cancer

My mom was diagnosed exactly one year ago, one week before Mother's day. Her dr. straight out told me while she was still sedated that she had cancer and it didn't look good. I immediately when into a daze.. and got weak. Ran to bath room and started to cry. Never in a million years, would I EVER th...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

Hi there. My mommy went through the same pain you are explaining last summer. Towards the end she said the pain was a 10 because her location was 3 inches above rectum, very close to opening. Not sure if your nurse explained the end treatment is the strongest because they narrow down the radiation a...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Took my nap and it is still awful. This is going to be tough until it starts to subside. Going back to sleep some more with gloves. Been thinking about you. How is everything? My mom and you were doing everything at the same time. My mom had tough recovery. She is now just on Xeloda, you? Hope all ...

Re: Ileostomy reversal experience?

As for the rest, you will have to prepare your mother for many changes. The first few months were a nightmare for me. I really considered getting the bag back!!!! Or die. Really. The doctors were not helpful as they don't seem to have a clue. I was pooping all the time. I was sore and tired. Thank ...

Re: Ileostomy reversal experience?

The first week or so after everything is hooked back up is a tad hectic and chaotic and stick to bland foods. Imodium will also be your mums friend, at least for the first little while. She’ll see improvements measured in weeks and months rather than days but it does get batter. Good to know about ...

Re: Ileostomy reversal experience?

Unless she does some sort of daily Kegel exercises or daily sphincter exercises to keep the bowel-movement muscles and pelvic floor muscles in shape. So, between now and mid-May, you could try to encourage your mother to do some of these exercises every day so that when it comes time for reversal s...

Ileostomy reversal experience?

Hi All, My mother will have her ileostomy reversal sometimes this May. I wanted to ask anyone who has had this done, how their experience was or how can I prep and plan for my mom's pre and post surgery? I have heard pro's and con's. Here are some questions: 1. How long was your ileostomy reversal ...

Re: Tribute to my dear friend Anne - aka BeansMama

I feel like I know her, but can't see it. I just remember her posting something about naming her tumor Larry. She was close to my age with children. I can't even imagine. Someone suggested to "Don't ask, but do" when things like this happen. Something to think about. RIP sweet angel Cancer...

Re: Reversal recovery time

My mom is coming in to stay with me for 11 days. My surgeon told me he wants me out of work for a month, so that time has been requested. I wish this snow storm hadn't hit this week. Good to know as I will be your mother with my mother. She is nervous about the reversal too, she hates surgery as th...

Re: How to minimize surgical complications

The best thing you can do is find the best surgeon possible. What he/she does is going to have the greatest impact on your recovery. I realize it’s late for that now. I searched and searched for the best colorectal surgeon for my mother. He was Chief surgeon and I read the reviews from his patients...

Re: So scared. Cancer or hemorrhoids?

Then, this morning, I had a streak of bright red blood in my stool. Coincidentally, I had a GI consult last week bc my dad had precancerous polyps and have a colonoscopy scheduled on 1/23. I called today to see if they can get me in sooner and they can not. Hi Megan!! I too, had the same symptoms a...
