Re: One Year Recurrence?

Sorry you are going through this. Did you have a low anterior resection? My husband did and since his surgery he gets a pressure down low (anastomosis) but it's this extreme pain/pressue that comes on if he gets constipated or starts having a lot of small bowel movements known as clustering. We have...

Re: Side effects with chemo

Thank you , yes I will do that soon sorry I know that would probably be helpful. Oh wow that's awful. His hasn't gotten to that point yet but his stomach just starts to hurt with cramping for a good couple of days. Usually by now he's feeling pretty good but he's still feeling pretty awful from his ...

Side effects with chemo

I was curious to know if these are possible side effects to chemo. My husband seems to get a very bad stomach with cramping like 5-7 days after his chemo and then this last chemo he had 1/2 dose oxaliplatin added and he has a constant tickle dry cough in his chest. Could these be side effects to the...

Re: CEA and scans

Hmmm yea I am a little concerned although she did say she wasn't too worried since his was so low, she did mention that people that smoke (which my husband does not) typically have higher CEA but now I am concerned and wondering if we should have it checked again.

CEA and scans

I was wondering when everyone else's oncologist does CEA and scans. They did my husbands CEA after his first chemo and it was 0.7 down from 4.7 at time of diagnosis. However, his oncologist said that they wont test again until after he is finished with chemo and I think she said he will have his fir...

Re: Bad symptoms every 5 days

My husband seemed to start this exact same pattern. it seemed that it started the day of his chemo treatment and unfortunately we waited too long and he got really constipated and that causes some serious pain for him near his resection called tenesmus, So last time he started to notice again lack o...

Re: Chemotherapy options/help

Thank you, glad to hear your neuropathy wasn't too bad. Oddly last night he woke me up and said that he had tingling in his feet, scared the crap out us especially because it is 6th day out from chemo, thankfully it subsided. I think he has made the decision to continue the 5fu but not the oxy. I ho...

Re: Chemotherapy options/help

Thank you but he has only had 1 dose of oxy and it was 1/2 a dose, he doesn't think he can do more. He is so torn.

Re: Chemotherapy options/help

Thank you, that is one thing we are very afraid of is the neuropathy. He said he just can't do anymore oxy from the side effects, I can't even believe with only 1 at 1/2 dose can be so different. He's weighing the slight percentage I think his oncologist said 3-5% (I could be wrong) survival with ox...

Re: Need your hindsight! (Scared)

I am so sorry to hear about your sister, I sure hope they can find something that will work for her, I couldn't even imagine. It's hard as a caretaker to see our loved ones go through this. My husband just had his 6th chemo and this was the first with the oxaliplatin added and only at half dose, he ...

Chemotherapy options/help

Husband had surgery for stage 3 colon cancer (LAR) . He started chemo in Sept which was suppose to be the FOLFOX but due to a neuropathy issue he has had in the past came on right after his surgery again therefore when he started they only were doing the 5fu and leucavorin (sp?) until he had his neu...

Re: Help with bowels

Thank you I will look into that. The problem with the enemas and suppositories is he cant keep them in because this tenesmus the spasms just push it all right back out.

Re: Help with bowels

So here we are again, bowel issues. Things were going fairly well, for a few weeks, then bam this last chemo really caused him constipation. We found that the nopalina were causing too many bowel movements per day, not sure if that was the senna leaf in it but he was having to take immodium but it s...

Re: Need help metallic taste

My husband is only on 5fu right now not oxaliplatin and he gets the metalic taste immediately with the bolus and then it continues while he has his pump. Usually the taste subsides a couple of days after pump is off. He sucks on a lot of jolly ranchers or mint candies, that seems to help a lot. That...

Re: Celebrating 10 years of survival today

Wow that is awesome! Thank you for sharing, as my husband has only had his 4th round of chemo after his colon resection, it's hard to see the end of the tunnel but your story and ones like these are very encouraging. Thank you for sharing.
