Re: end??????

Matthew, I know this has got to be overwhelming - but fighting the doc's advice and the process is not necessarily going to best serve you or your wife. As spouse, you are the person to whom docs will turn as the primary caregegiver. Until this situation is fully explained to you, you do need to sta...

Re: Fake, calorie free sugar?

I agree w/Kathryn - use very small amounts of the least processed natural sweetner you like if you MUST have some form of sweet taste. But bottom line, all natural sweeteners are forms of sugar, and IMO, no sweetener at all is best for your body. Truvia is processed stevia - you want to use Stevia, ...

Re: Has anyone done 12 of Folfox and not had bad neuropathy?

I had 16 oxi treatments, no cal/mg supplements. I had some hand/foot tingling by round 12, but could still type, walk, drive. It was winter in CNY when I came off chemo to prep for Februray surgey, and by April the neuropathy (from OxI) was gone.

Re: Dispensing medical advice on CC

Y'know, even the title of this topic is a little over the line - medical practioners or not, NONE of us is allowed to "dispense medical advice on these forums," for a couple of reasons. First, Molly (the board owner) has repeatedly asked us NOT to do that. If you search "Molly + medic...

Re: For those with pump installation...how long in hospital?

My pump was installed when my primary rectal tumor was removed, so that was a 10-day stay. 13 months later, I had liver resection - 7 days in hospital.

Re: On getting a 2nd opinion...

We live in Georgia, and he is waiting to hear back from Medicaid and disability, as he has no insurance right now....We are planning fundraisers and have benefits in the works, and have had some already to help with costs, and I'm sure we have enough for at least an oncologist visit. What else shou...

Re: I have a scar for both lapro and standard surgery?

My surgeon had originally said he was going to go in and get the tumor in my colon laproscopically....but that a uterine fibroid I have might get in the way causing him to have to do it the standard way. My questions is, how would a very large tumor be removed and left intact for pathology using on...

Re: Robin Gibb Be-gees cofounder dead from cancer

I was about to get ticked at my morning DJ because they started with "after suffering from gastrointestinal issues for years..." I thought dang it, they can't even say colon cancer, but at the very end of the blurb they concluded with that he had colon cancer that progressed to the liver ...

Re: RECURRENCE? Please explain!

And why do people say that five years means cure? People are often desperate to hear that word "cure" - even if it's not an accurate picture. Five years is an arbitrary number, based on the number of recurrences that present after five years for stages 1-Ii-iiI. There are several threads ...

Re: Robin Gibb Be-gees cofounder dead from cancer

It is sad that this disease claimed another life - but Gibb was in a very advanced state of CRC with extensive liver mets and he wasn't responding to chemo. As for personal grief - each death affects us all differently. But lohidoc, if you're referring to Whitney Houston, I'm not sure I'd characteri...

Re: Staging question 3A or 3C?

Being staged at 3A would substantially increase the odds, so I'm all for it. The section about staging under the sticky post on this site then should also be corrected as it still shows stage 3C. Justsing passed away last year, and unfortunately, only a moderator can edit that first post in the sti...

Re: feeling like a beaten up caregiver

What JB and Ashlee said, Janklo. This isn't something you can fix, mom. She's a 28 yo adult, and she has to wrok through the self-image issues of cancer on her own. As suggested - support, and foster her self-esteem, but don't push. THAT is what could put her over the edge. FWIW, my very thick hair ...

Re: Headache....ibuprofen?

Tylenol, or aspirin if you're not also on blood thinners or avastin. BUT my oncs (both of them) really didn't want me to take any NSAIDS or OTC pain pils unless they'd be told about them and agreed to their use in advance. The danger is that all of them can mask fevers, which had to be watched, and ...
