Re: Please share LAR w/ ileostomy recovery experiences

Hi all, DH is 1 month out from an illeo and he is still having issues. Was in hospital for a week after surgery, came home was ok then ate pizza and ended up in ER with illeus. Was back in hospital for 3 days and developed awful spasms in diaphragm. It's been 3 weeks, hasn't been eating much, tired....

Caregivers

How do you all do it? We're 9 months in since we found out DH has stage IV cc. We've been thru a colonostomy, treatments, hospital stays. Most recently DH had surgery to correct retracted stoma and now has an ilesostomy. It's been 4 weeks since surgery and this is the hardest recovery yet. Two weeks...

Treatment question

DH is starting back up on his treatments and they are adding irinotecan to his infusions. He is on the 5fu, oxliplatin, and avastin already.

Anyone who had irinotecan, can you tell me about experience (side effects, did it work, etc)

Thanks in advance.

Re: Update

Best of luck. This is encouraging. They would not remove DH colon bc of mets and the longer recovery. They gave him an illeo and want him back on treatment. I'm hoping once on treatment we can find a surgeon who will remove colon and give him perm "bag" for best long term survival. I hate ...

Re: Hiccups

He was given that medicine too. We are trying to get food in stomach so there isn't all that air. I think once we can get food in stomach and eliminate air he should be in the mend.

Hiccups

DH had surgery 3 weeks ago for an illeostomy. Was in hospital for a week, day 3 had bad hiccups for 48 hours given NG tube and resolved issue. DH was doing well home up until last Friday when he had pizza, cheesesteak and sushi. Had severe vomitting all night and became dehydrated. Took him to ER on...

Immunotherapy Clinical Trials

Thank you all in advance for your help. We are looking at possible immunotherapy clinical trials for DH who is Stage IV with peri mets and on colon too. Nothing on liver or lungs. He is an active 42 year old male. You would never know he was sick. I've found the list of trials online. It's so overwh...

Inoperable Stage IVs

Question, how many of you stage IVs were deemed inoperable? Why were you deemed inoperable? Did you seek additional opinions? What has your treatment been and how long has it been?

Thanks

UPDATED. Re: Need help

It's been 24 hours since receiving the news regarding DH. After speaking further with surgeon today he explained how they basically found disease on/through the colon wall and along bowel. I asked why we can't just removed the colon and bowel, he said disease is extensive and it would not change muc...

UPDATED Need help

DH is 42 and has stage iv cc. No mets on lungs or liver, but it's in his peri and on his appendix which was removed in March when he was found out. He has an ostomy which was retracted and after 10 rounds of chemo today he had surgery to fix his ostomy. We were also hoping for a possible debulking o...

Question for Stage IV

Out of curiosity, onco will tell us there is no cure it's just treatable. Does it ever bother anyone when you read your records and it says you are receiving "palliative treatment"?

Everyone in this forum are fighters and anything is possible.

Reversal question

How long did you have to wait for your reversal surgery? Originally was told 6 months, now will be on "maintenance chemo". I really want this reversal ASAP. Would you fight with doc to push this or wait?

2nd opinions

My DH is being treated at one of the top cancer centers in the country, UPenn the Abramson Cancer Center in Philly and the docs are great!

My question, has anyone seeked out a 2nd opinion with other institutions during treatment just to see if they would do anything differently?

Lymph Nodes Question

Out of curiosity, how many lymph nodes were removed and tested positive? What was/is your treatment plan and are any of you NED?
