Re: The Truth about Cancer series

Missjv, Couldn't agree more that there is a place for, lack of a better word, alternative therapies. I used them during my own treatment. Also, my oncologist really supports an integrative medicine approach, which is one of the reasons I am so loyal. I'd be interested to know what things you are doi...

Re: The Truth about Cancer series

Also, there's another thread about the documentary Emperor of All Maladies. This is truly good and fact/science based. Well worth watching.

Re: Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies

I saw the doc and it is fantastic.

There is another thread discussing the truth about cancer and the difference between these two is night and day. Emperor is fact and science based and covers a wide gamete of cancers, treatments, emotional well-being, etc. Truth about cancer is pure scam.

Re: The Truth about Cancer series

I went through the website and very quickly came to believe it is a total scam. They say chemo is a conspiracy and people don't need it. Not great advice.

I agree, stick only with credible sources. There's a lot of people willing to take advantage of our fear.

Re: The Toll That Cancer Takes On Relationships

PS I'm a writer and I work with people to help them find agents and publishers for their work. I'd love to help (no fee, of course) in any way I can. I think it is long past due for someone to publish a series of essays that are truthful to the point of painful about cancer. No more of this crazy se...

Re: The Toll That Cancer Takes On Relationships

A few things came to mind reading this post and the responses. One is the memory of my ex-wife taking me to court right after my surgery (she had been so abusive before that that my oncologist assigned me a social worker to help with just her abuse) so that I had to borrow a few thousand from my bro...

Re: Just found out

Sorry to say, but this truth about cancer sounds like a lot of baloney. This doesn't mean there isn't a place for natural treatments for side effects, etc., but you have to be careful because some can inhibit the effectiveness of treatments. I would also argue with the inference that chemo is a scam...

Re: cancer and career - RANT

I'm sorry too for what we all have to go through with this disease and what you are dealing with. There is a story on the Washington Post website about a group who are trying to do something about the financial strain we all undergo. I would add that cancer isn't just a disease, treatment, and emoti...

Re: Stage IV and LTD

Seems like a fairly obtuse oncologist. Not sure why s/he would be so indifferent, but perhaps you could get something of a second opinion?

I got really impatient to start too, but there's a few things they have to figure out to be sure you get the best results. That said, don't let them run too long.

Re: 3rd day home from surgery and constipated

I had and have horrible constipation. Miralax and the other bulk laxatives only made it worse. I would speak to your doctor because if you have a blockage you need to address it. I take Senakot with a stool softener and that helps. I also have a colostomy and irrigate. Before taking senna you should...

Re: Neuropathy

It sounds like a sciatic nerve issue. The pain associated with damage to this nerve can shoot down from one side of the neck through the leg and feel like an electric shock. Interesting of the chemo is causing such a side effect. As to neuropathy, I had it very bad in my hands and forearms and feet ...

Lee, great point.

Not sure where you are but you can ask the board here and get great recommendations. I went with Dr. Schoetz at Lahey in Burlington Massachusetts.

Re: Just found out

It varies for everyone. When I went for both the chemo/radiation and then chemo they gave me what I called the a la carte menu of side effects. If he is doing chemo/radiation the chemo will make him feel tired, but the radiation will cause a fair bit of pain around the anus and rectum. The best way ...

Re: Stage 2 vs Stage 3

When I was staged after surgery the doctor said I was borderline. If we wanted to be technical I was probably 2c, but the reality is that it is hard to be sure if the cells have been contained or gotten beyond the original site. So from a save your life point of view, we treated it as a stage III an...
