Re: My recent significant CEA jump.

The search is on for a superior testing method based on individual tumor DNA, which is the way to go. I found this quote from Dr. Axel Grothey, a well known oncologist at the Mayo Clinic: “ Dr. Grothey says he considers CEA to be a valuable surveillance test, but that research into better tests is o...

Re: My recent significant CEA jump.

Wow! Just reading your story stresses me out. My CEA has lived between 5 and 10, for 10 years, and no cancer has been found after numerous radiographic studies, CT, PET. Yes, if it’d jump to 60 it’d freak me out! It’s hard not to think about and I wish there were another simple blood test for those ...

Re: Rising CEA - What would you do?

Sorry to hear this, but, if it is, then it’d be better if it’s at the original site, a colon resection is much more effective and less complex than a hepatectomy and it’d mean that it hasn’t spread. Recurrences at the original site mostly occur within the first three years. Stay strong.

Re: Need help metallic taste

It’s a horrible side effect of the oxaliplatin. What help was actually eating well seasoned foods. Once you’re done with the chemo things go back to normal. Hang in there.

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

I’m super frustrated coming out of my meeting with Kemeny. Am I NED? She didn’t say so. And all Dr Kingham said was he thinks he got it all. They did do a CT scan to diagnose the fluid build up so I would think someone would have noted if they saw anything there. She noted that pathology was “very ...

No doubt. Get the colonoscopy, you don’t want to be in a bad situation down the line because you didn’t.

Re: Freaking out of my mind...CEA climb and specks on lungs

Take a deep breath and try to relax. This could be nothing at all. 2.6 is well within normal. There are many things that can cause an elevated CEA. A lot of people are cancer free with above normal readings.

Re: Rising CEA - What would you do?

I have had similar cea issues and I know how stressful it can be. There are a large number of people you and I might be included who have false high readings. MSK did a study on this and it showed that 50% of false-positive readings. Read here: https://www.ascopost.com/issues/august-15-2014/high-fal...

Re: How long does MSK take to get approval to install HAI pump?

Just FYI, the Codman pump is coming back. Bought by private group. Both UCSF and CIty of Hope are aware of this development, and ready to go once the pumps are back in production. I presume MSK knows of this, too. GREAT NEWS! It's an effective, inexpensive and proven piece of equipment. I had writt...
