Bowel Management

Has anyone tried the M.D. Anderson Bowel Management Program? Has it worked for any of you?

Re: Reversing the Reversal

My problems don't sound as severe as those that you've mentioned, but I honestly feel like I never have a good day. Since I was diagnosed in January of 07 the quality of my life just has not been good. After my reversal in January of 08 my doctors all said that it would just be a matter of time and t...

Re: Good News to Share

That's so great, Maria! It is the best feeling to get a good report about a clear scan. Only a cancer survivor can understand that emotion!

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

Good luck today with your x-ray. Hope they can figure out why the blockage. Just out of curiousity why do you suggest taking the Align in the morning? Again, I've offficially given up on the benefiber. Hopefully, I won't get too constipated without it. Such a juggling act, isn't it?

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

Thank you, Dottie, for this information. I'm struggling again with this darn situation. Yesterday was a really bad day. Lots of trips to the bathroom. I had a pastrami sandwich for lunch. That seems very wrong doesn't it! Did that do it? I have such a hard time figuring out what foods are "bad&...

Re: Life After Cancer Diagnosis

I, too, can so relate to what you're feeling. I am surprised at how much and how often I think about cancer. For one thing, we, CRC folks, are reminded everytime we go to the bathroom which is a lot. I've had a scare over the past few months with my dr seeing "activity" in my lung during a...

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

Hi Kitty, Thanks for the thoughtful reply. It's so nice to watch people helping each other out on these boards. I want to adopt some of your "rituals". Do you take the benefiber once a day or twice? Do you ever use any Lomotil or Imodium to stop the "clustering"? The "once a...

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

Yes, this forum has been wonderful for me. I never felt that I wanted to go out to a support group but this is so much better(at least for me). I was doing really great with benefiber taking two teaspoons a day. That was working for me resulting in one "episode" a day. In and out of the ba...

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

I am a little over 13 months after my takedown surgery. I will admit that there were many days that I had wished that I "kept the bag". I can almost finally say that I am happy that I had the reversal. I am taking one dose of benefiber everyday and out of all the many, many, many things th...

Re: Second Hand Asbestos Exposure

http://www.asbestos.com/cancer/colorectal.php Here is one of the links that show some relationship between asbestos exposure and colorectal cancer. I'm not sure if that's was caused my cancer. Sometimes I feel like I'm trying to find a reason as to why this happened since there's no family history e...

Re: Second Hand Asbestos Exposure

There's nothing that they'll do about the preural plaque. It won't turn into lung cancer but people that have it have a higher incidence of developing mesothelioma. There are a lot of cases of various cancers resulting from secondary exposure to asbestos.
