Re: Im mentally breaking

Hey Trying, I just wanted to say this is horrible and sucks...words can’t even describe how scared and angry I get. You aren’t alone in feeling like this and we often put on a brave face here. (I’m regularly reduced to a quivering mess when I think of my kids). Seeing a counselor at my Cancer Agency...

Re: Xeloda + Avastin Maintenance for NED people

I am on maintenance chemo. I did over a year of 5FU pump and Avastin. The pump started making me sick and I am now doing Xeloda (3200mg reduced from 4000mg due to sore feet) and Avastin. I'm on the third 3 week cycle and so far seems so good (knock on wood). Everything I've read leads me to believe ...

Re: Quality of life on Folfox and others

I did 12 rounds of FolFox and Bevicuzimab and about 15 more of 5FU and Bev (now on round 2 of Xeloda and Bev). Side effects sucked but I would describe my quality of life as good. While on full FolFox I was knocked down for a few days every 2 weeks but after that I was just a bit more tired than nor...

Re: Lung nodule question

Sounds stable to me. I’ve sat with a radiologist while he remeasured one of my scans and his measure was 1mm different from the doc who authored the first report. That’s on the same scan so imagine the margin of error between scans.

Congrats on your long term NED !

Re: New plan for para aortic lymph nodes. No surgery, radiation instead

Thanks so much for the update and the helpful information. This sounds like it has a good chance to provide long term remission. It also seems through anecdotes on this board that chemo can wipe or suppress those micro mets if they are present in other nodes. If you want a great story about radiatio...

Re: lymph node tested positive :(

There is every reason to have hope for a positive outcome for your husband. Surgery still may be an option and if not, then systemic treatments may be very effective. There are several examples on this board of people with lymph node mets that have been going strong for many years and tolerating tre...

Re: I need a pep talk

Hi Trying, There is plenty of reason to hope. One option for BC patients is the POG trial. Which has seen some success in at least one stage 4 colon cancer patient. I’m from the Vancouver area. Another stage 4 patient from chilliwack and I get together for a coffee from time to time. If you ever wan...

Re: DH had surgery consult yesterday for para aortic nodes

Sounds like you have a good plan ! Anytime surgery can remove the cancer you have a great chance for a positive outcome. I had para-aortic nodes at diagnosis and as of my last PET scan in April they are no longer showing up (I'm overdue for a scan now). 5Fu infusions are starting to wear me down so ...

Re: Scan Results 15 months post surgery. NDED vs NED?

I read it as a good scan. I’ve had close to 10 CT or PET scans since diagnosis and noticed how each radiologist writes differently. I’ve had a few that read like this and I think they just have a “hedgy”style as it is somewhat subjective. If they saw something suspicious they would definitely note i...

Re: CT scan report and PARA-AORTIC Lymph Nodes!

All this means is that the nodes are likely reactive. While there is still good reason to think they may be benign my advice is to be vigilant. I had prominent nodes noted on my Stage 3 scan which were later revealed by follow-up PET scans to be cancer (only a biopsy would be certain but the PET num...

Re: Bizarre results, please help!

Hi CLD, Sorry to hear about the possible bad news this scan has brought. While it does seem rare, lymph node and bone spread is not unheard of and there are a few examples from this board. That being said you are right that PET scans can show false positives especially when there are signs of infect...

Re: Avastin in UK's NHS vs. USA Healthcare

Hi Warrior Spouse, Hope all is well with you and your wife. For a Canadian perspective....The public system in BC has paid for my Avastin and it seems will indefinately. My Oncologist is also planning to try me on Erbitux once he see's progression and that will be covered as well. I do notice that t...

Re: What the hell happened to my colon? I need answers

I had a somewhat similar experience and did a lot of research after. In brief- I had rectal bleeding in 2010 and during my colonoscopy the Dr. found a large ugly polyp which he removed via snare. The pathology came back pre-cancerous (high grade dysplasia) so I didn't have a resection but had follow...
