Re: Staging Question

hi, I just wanted to chime in.. that in my dads case his first cat scan was clear, but he ended up being stage 4. Not saying that is what will happen in your case at all.. but I just wanted to make you aware of it. My dad was first diagnosed with a tumor in the colon, did his first cat scan before s...

Re: taking a break from cancer

Hi read your posting, and once you have a loved one diagnosed with this... it is very hard to stepback. But we have to a little, or it does become "consuming". My dad was diagnosed in jan. of 09 with stage 4, and I threw myself into it. My parents don't have a computer, so I was the one lo...

Re: Peritoneal Metastisis - I just didn't know

I hope your husband is doing okay, and please don't listen to the docs. statistics, my dad just heard that same number 2 days ago at his doc appt. They are telling him now he has the mets to the peritoneum and with treatment 12=15 months, without 6. Like I told my parents I have read story time and ...

options for mets to peritoneum?

Well my dad is about 2 and a half months out from chemo... checked his cea which was in normal range , and has jumped to a 38, ordered a pet scan, and the spot on the peritoneum is still not lighting up anymore. Of course we were all excited about that, I had the fear that his scan would be lighting...

Re: Since the 'taste of beer' conversation has come up...

Maybe I should have been a little clearer or maybe not posted it at all... My dad is currently drinking enough to be considered a "heavy drinker". Alcoholism runs strongly in my family, and my dad has drank all my life. I am not trying to push anything on him, I print him out things, some ...

Re: Since the 'taste of beer' conversation has come up...

I really appreciate this topic getting posted... we have been having the "alchohol" issue with my dad. Even while he was on chemo, we have found out that he was drinking a few beers during the week and on the weekend. Now that he is off chemo, and his scans are clear, the drinking has cont...

Re: how often does port get flushed?

hi - just wanted to thank everyone for their response. As soon as my mom called me and asked me the question, I told her I don't have the answer right this second, but give me about an hour, and I know somewhere I can get it--- this board-- all of you are really so helpful....

how often does port get flushed?

Hi my dad just finished his chemo about a month ago, and I was wondering what the norm was for getting the port flushed out. His doc is having him come in once a month. And has anyone had any problem with bacteria and infections from having it done?

CHEMO OVER NOW WHAT?????????????????/

HI, my dad just finished up his 6 months of chemo last week. I was just wondering what the normal thing was after that. Do you normally have a pet scan when the chemo ends, or do you wait a couple of months? And how long normally do they keep the port in? I appreciate all your answers-- Having some ...

Re: Thanks for the encouragement from new member

HI, came across your posting, and was curious how your husband was doing. I do not have colon cancer but my dad does-- he just celebrated his 60th birthday. He was diagnosed in january of this year and had his colon resection shortly there after. We had the same problem with the ct scan before my da...

Re: Stage IV long term survivors?

hi, I guess I really don't have an answer for you, in fact I think I have the same questions. I was reading over the postings, and seen the words stage 4- anytime I see that - I have to read it. My dad was diagnosed in jan. of this year with stage 4- 11 out of 21 lymph nodes and it had spread to the...

Re: Help! Scan Reveals No Active Cancer

hi,I private messaged you, and had overlooked the fact that you were meeting with the surgeon shortly, please let me know how that goes, you seem to have the same questions we are having, and I am very curious what the surgeon tells you about having surgery, versus not having it at this point. thank...
