Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Just wondering what you think of elliptical machines. I’ve only just started working out again because of my back. I’ve always had back problems, and was diagnosed with a herniated L5-S1 back around 2009. Seems my LAR or the hospital bed or walking too much too soon made it get worse than it’s ever ...

Re: Post surgery update

Well I had 6 month post surgery scans come back clear at the end of September. My oncologist released me to my family doctor for monitoring, so I take that as very positive. I have a colonoscopy coming up in about 2 months then another CT scan in September. I finally started to work out again. Mostl...

Re: In need of metastasis education

I always thought clear margins referred to cancer free tissue on both sides of the tumor after it has been removed.

Cancer sucks.

Re: What is radiation/chemo treatment actually like?

I did 25 days of radiation and chemo pills before surgery. I was told to have a full bladder, and that was the most difficult part for me to manage. Either I was too full or not full enough. I probably hit the “sweet spot” a handful of times. I would go in with my own clothes, pull my pants down to ...

They always leave some ‘wiggle room’ when describing these things. I mean they are never definite.

Looks like a good scan to me. I know it’s next to impossible, but try to relax as much as you can.

I read they were prebiotics and that your body may not actually like probiotics and could attack the bacteria as an invader but of course I do know that everyone reacts differently and there’s a lot of bro science with health supplements too.

Seemed to help.

I haven’t taken any probiotics but I did start drinking kefir and eating sauerkraut. I think it helped.

Re: “Near” Complete Clinical Response and what to do next

I would say trust your doctors. This is what they do. Also, a stoma isn’t automatic. I was prepped for one but the surgeon determined that it wasn’t necessary in my case.

They won’t know anything for sure until they open you up and see what’s what.

Re: 5 year scans

I’d take that as a positive sign too.

Mine just released me back to my family doctor about 6 weeks ago.

Supposed to have a colonoscopy around March and next CT in September.

5 years is a big milestone, congratulations.

Re: 5 year scans

I had two weeks exactly between my last CT scan and seeing my oncologist.

I figure if they see something, they’ll get a hold of you. No news is good news thinking.

Good luck with the results.

I’ll echo the comments about no news being good news.

If they saw something you would have heard from them quickly.

Re: Post surgical changes. Reoccurrence?

I was just looking over my CT from September, roughly 6 months post surgery. I just saw my oncologist for the last time (hopefully) two weeks after the scan, and approximately 2 months after I finished 4 cycles of Xeloda. There is similar wording in my CT report: “Mild thickening of the rectum circu...

Re: Vision & chemo

I think my eyesight was coincidentally deteriorating at the same time. I did notice that things got more blurry while on Xeloda, but my oncologist said that wasn’t a side effect.

Now I have glasses.
