Re: Trying to select a surgeon and hospital in Mass

The overall organization is Mass General Brigham and they recently changed their name from Partners Healthcare. Dana Farber actually doesn't provide surgical or in-patient services. Brigham and Women's Hospital provides surgical and in-patient services for Dana Farber patients. The main campus of Br...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I have my first appointment at Dana Farber since before the pandemic started tomorrow morning. They called today with a list of COVID questions. I'm planning on driving down around 5:15 AM to get there at 6:15 AM for bloodwork and a 7:30 AM appointment. I'll wear my own mask into the building and t...

Re: Energy

Thanks!!! Yeah, this COVID threw a kink in the plan for child care + preschool ... and now it looks like it’s all closed up in my area again Fall2020. I did a bunch of reading about “Cancer Related Fatigue” and added in more protein (which helped). I might just be one of the ones that struggles wit...

Re: Personal question ... how do YOU do it?

I was RIF'd two days ago and will go on COBRA and the exchanges after that. That's the plan anyways.

Re: colonoscopy without anesthesia

I've had two colonoscopies with Propofil where they put me under. These cost more because they have to have an Anesthesiologist present. I had one with Fentynal where you are just barely awake - it's conscious sedation and you don't feel anything. Fentynal is a powerful painkiller but it makes you d...

Re: New to this, don’t know how to “chat”

My GI doc said that it won't be easy but just put one foot in front of the other and keep going. I have a long thread where I describe what I'm going through if you want to see a narration on what I went through. I was also stage 3.

Re: Need advice on colostomy

I know how you feel - I use fasting, nopalina (supplement), slippery elm (supplement) and exercise to try to make things better but I sometimes have these bad days that I'm sure you're familiar with. I have put aside the colostomy option as there are some things that I like to do that may not be eas...

Everything's good. I asked why there were so few people around and she said that a lot of people are doing telehealth.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Far fewer people here so they may be spacing out appointments or maybe fewer patients coming in. More security in tags with who signed you in and date. Also tracking device. I went to the cafeteria to wait for the elevators to work and there was a guy sneezing and blowing his nose there so I went el...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Hey Mike, I'd be nervous too going into Boston. You could also wear some cool safety glasses and a hat. As my grandpa used to say about unsure situations "You couldn't have gotten a 6 penny nail between my butt cheeks." Stay Safe!!! I've been wearing glasses for three decades and they do ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I was RIF'd this morning. Basically my job went away. I could look around for another job in the company (there are lots of them) but I decided to leave as I really need a break of three months to rebuild my body. My last day is in two weeks and I'm continuing to work until then. It's probably the p...

Re: Energy

I would recommend some kind of training. It could be walking or something else but do it every day and try to do a bit more over time. Perhaps check nutrition and bloodwork to see if there are reasons for feeling tired (low red blood count would be an obvious one). Make sure you get enough high-qual...

Re: How often do you get scanned after treatment?

I'm two years out from treatment. Bloodwork every three months 7 times and then switch to every six months.

Chemo finished June 2018, CT June 2018, MRI July 2018, Reversal July 2018. I think CTs annually - didn't have them every six months.

Re: Random Cough

We've had sustained high pollen counts in my area this year. I get the counts emailed to me from pollen.com. One thing that helps if someone else in the household has similar symptoms on the same days.
