Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I'm walking (with a bit of running) about 100 miles per week but I wouldn't call it intense exercise. Just a lot of low-intensity cardio. I haven't done weights or high-intensity cardio. All of that walking, though, is brutal on the skin on the toes and feet and puts some stress on the ankle and kn...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I found a study indicating that CEA went down with exercise but I doubt that they were talking about the exercise levels that some do here. All of the walking I do does cause some inflammation - I get a little chondromalacia (knee-tracking issues) from time to time and it results in losing cartilag...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

My fitness center manager speculated that all of the exercise is causing the inflammation which is a possibility. I'm a fitness buff too and was told during treatment not to do heavy exercise shortly before a CT scan due to possible false readings in both CEA and blood test results. There's a stron...

Re: what happens after chemo?

I'm nearly 8 months post Chemo. Mostly post treatment you should relish the rebirth of your physical being, because it's nothing short of rebirth in my mind. From strength zapping, energy crushing, mental straining, neuropathy inducing, taste bud altering chemo beat down to a gradual incline into a ...

Re: Immunotherapy and cannabis?

I came across an interesting research paper in PubMed about the potential interaction of cannabinoids on the immune system (see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid) here: http://ar.iiarjournals.org/content/28/6A/3743.long Reading this made me wonder about how cannabis might modulate the bo...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Lab results are mostly good. My RBC and H&H are a bit low so I need to do something about that. Maybe get more iron in my diet. The CEA isn't back but I think that the oncologist embargoes it (I don't get to see the results until he allows it) because he knows that I've been anxious about it. I...

Re: Hello from a new member

Weight loss was an issue for me, but mostly due to chemo induced Diarrhea. Day of diagnosis I weight 183 lbs. At treatment 7 I was down to 153 lbs. That was incidentally also the last treatment I had with Oxaliplatin. The oxali had wreaked havoc on my blood counts (mostly white) since the very first...

Re: CBD OIL

I used CBD in conjunction with chemotherapy treatment, but not with the hopes of shrinking a tumor. While limited evidence in the petri-dish seems to support the fact that CBD and THC both encourage apoptosis of cells including cancerous, I'd certainly not forego standard care. From the reading I've...

Re: Still worried after finding Hemorrhoids

If you received a sigmoidoscopy and it came back fine you are most likely in the clear. However if you only received an ANOSCOPY. I would not be satisfied. I had first bleeding around age of 29. I received an Anoscopy, and was informed my bleeding was most likely result of a minor roid flare or smal...

Re: Is the day that cheno treatment ...

Day of disconnect was like a light switch for me. I'd be disconnected and within 6 hours be rendered unconscious and confined to be for 36 up to 72 hours. With just enough time awake to eat, drink, brush teeth and use the bathroom. Then things always improved until the next cycle. I agree fluids are...

Re: Better news, Neuropathy & questions

My neuropathy continued to progress after treatment and now that I am more than three years out I assume it is permanent. But I also remain NED more than three years out, so at this point I have no regrets. It is (for me) definitely the lesser of two evils. I think my situation is not really the no...

Re: Better news, Neuropathy & questions

Hi Capri, While I can't speak to the Liver Spot/Scan. I can relay my experience with Neuropathy. I was diagnosed 3b at 44 years of age. So similar to your son in age and stage. I did get neuropathy during treatment quite significantly. To the point that my fingers and toes and even the entire bottom...
