Report from ASCO

I signed up to listen in on an educational seminar tomorrow presented by CancerCare. (Their website is http://www.cancercare.org) I get a lot of unsolicited literature from them because I am a nurse, but this is the first time I have signed up for a presentation. The topic is a Report from the ASCO ...

From what I have read in research, everything being said here is accurate. My husband's CEA has started to show an upward trend, but has not gotten up to 4 yet. His onc said that if it got to 4, OR if it starting to jump up in large increments, that it would be more likely to reprent a recurrence or...

My husband and I understand frustrating setbacks because we have dealt with them from the onset. After the surgery was over, chemo was scheduled to begin about 8 weeks afterwards. Thus far, nothing has happenen "on schedule". I know you have also had to put up with this sort of thing. First, his whi...

This is a timely thread for me, given we are going through the same ordeal. My husband's CEA pre-surgery was 3.5 (if I recall). It fell to 2.something following surgery and according to what I have researched and what the onco told us - this is a good indication. When if falls after surgery, that me...

Guest spouse, I must say...this has become a very interesting and thought provoking thread. No marriage is perfect, but the strains of dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be devestating. Even the "best" marriage will be stressed to its very limitation under these circumstances. What I think sets us ...

LA8 I am very sorry to hear that you got bad news. :( I can't offer any words of wisdom, other than there are numerous folks out here on the message board that have a colostomy and do OK with it. It isn't what you want, but am sure you can adjust to it. All of this is a huge strain on relationships/...

To guest spouse - I am the spouse, my husband has cancer. He is currently on his adjuvant chemotherapy, so we are currently "in" the fight. I have read here on the message board that there is a huge difference between being in the middle of the fight as opposed to "life after chemo", and how each pe...

Lori, congratulations! That gives us all hope! My husband is 44, he was diagnosed at 43 with stage III rectal cancer with 3 nodes positive. He is currently getting his chemo and has already had radiation. I was curious as to what treatment (ie. chemo drugs) you had and for how long? Thanks, wdt

Yes, and it is very scary and very frustrating! My husband had his surgery in December 06 and was due to start his first chemo on Feb 5 - about 8 weeks after. He didn't start until about 3 and a half months after his surgery. He did go ahead and get his radiation treatments for rectal cancer, but th...

Well, good to know! I was just apprehensive. You never know who might be lurking around these message boards.... I don't mind if someone is asking questions like this even if they are with a drug company or some person doing research...I just want them to identify themselves and state the intent. Or...

.........not to be rude, but who are you and why do you want to know? I am not comfortable in answering this question for a number of reasons. How it worded, among other things. It does not appear that you are a patient or caregiver. Are you a representative of a drug company? Just wondering... You ...

Hey Johnny. Things are going better right now, I think! This is round 2 of the chemo. He seems to be tolerating it a little better than the first round, which is kind of odd...but he is farther out from the radiation on this round, and I can't help but think that my have had something to do with it....

Alcohol when on chemo

What have you all been told about having a drink when on chemo? My husband has been avoiding it completely when he is "on treatment", but has allowed himself to have a couple of beers when he is on his chemo break. We figure that his liver is getting poisoned with the chemo, so why tax it more! Anyw...
