Re: Allergic Reaction to Oxi

I'm at Dana Farber. I was told at the time that there aren't a lot of desensitization units though I'm surprised that Anderson doesn't have one!

Re: Allergic Reaction to Oxi

Hi ashima2016, I had an allergic reaction to oxi on my 6th round. I was able to continue receiving it through the rest of my treatments via desensitization. For me, this meant that I was given the oxi over a 6-8 hour period of time in my cancer center where one nurse was assigned only one patient an...

Re: Chemo Nausea

I second the cannabis! I would come home from chemo, stay awake for an hour or two, eat 1/4 of a special brownie, and then I'd be out for hours. I woke up feeling so much better! The nausea was gone and I'd had an extremely sound sleep. My doc and n.p. prescribed me all of the nausea meds listed but...

Re: Newbie looking for advice

Hi Byrdstrong, I'm sorry that you have to be here, but welcome to a great space. I hear you about doctor/hospital frustration. If your husband isn't being seen at a major cancer center, my first advice is to get to one. Having a confident and knowledgeable team of doctors is invaluable. I can't give...

Re: On a Dime

Hey Daddy, I'm older than your son but I'd like to offer some young adult perspective. My mom lives in Florida and I live in Massachusetts so while she's been here a lot throughout my 2 years of treatment, she's also had to learn to live with taking care of me through the phone. While I don't need t...

Re: Experience with Egg Harvesting due to potential ovary damage?

Hi there - I harvested eggs post-surgery/pre-chemo. It's a bit of a blur since it all happened so quickly but I remember it being an intense but fine two week period. My doc harvested 9 eggs but only 4 were viable enough to move on to the embryo stage. It did take a few weeks post-harvest for my bod...

Adding a baby to stage iv cancer life: Looking for real-life experiences

Hello, When I was first diagnosed, my husband and I were allowed the opportunity to freeze embryos before I started treatment. We don't have children but both want a family. Four months ago a friend offered to be our surrogate. This is an incredible offer from a great friend and her husband. We didn...

Re: Itchy?

I feel you! I've been extra itchy since I started Folfiri last winter. I've been off it since August and I'm still itchy though only really at night. My onc wasn't alarmed but if it continues I'll look into it further. Good luck with your itches!

Re: Colon Resection- Scared! 39 yo female-colon cancer

Hi jcoker, I had a laparoscopic sigmoidoscopy on a Friday and was released on Monday. You've gotten great advice here already! I remember some pain for the first week but nothing unbearable at all. The hardest thing to do was get in and out of bed but your family and friends will want jobs to help y...

Re: Just diagnosed and trying to keep from freaking out

I'm glad to read that your first infusion feels okay so far. I remember with my first that I didn't experience any symptoms and so I didn't take the nausea meds (zofran) as I was instructed to and then paid the price - I don't recommend that! The neuropathy does vary by patient but it can be managea...
