Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Well, after a great week and a half off I'm back at it for round 2. It ended up being great timing. I was feeling good for Mother's Day, my sons end of school program, my daughters dance rectial, and my birthday lol. So I had a pretty good off week. This week is round 2. Off to good start so far. Wi...

Re: Another new Forum Member.

Haha, same thing for me. Just as I'm getting comfortable and ready to go to sleep, I gotta get up and go to the bathroom. I actually enjoy chemo day, the pre meds make me nice and relaxed lol. Except for the pump, I'm already ready for this sucker to come off lol

Re: Another new Forum Member.

Good luck with your first treatment. I just finished my first treatment last week, and while I didn't feel great for a few days, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Week two has been good too. I've felt great all week. Monday will be round 2 for me.

I second everyone else. Get a colonoscopy done. I put it off for years thinking my symptoms were ibs and now I'm 36 and have stage 3 colon cancer.

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Doing good today. Appetite came back so got to eat a little more. I've lost nearly 40 lbs since surgery at the beginning of April so I'm glad to get to eat. I did have a few questions for you guys. when do you guys normally wear a mask? I'll be around a lot of kids this weekend for Mother's Day so i...

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Crguy! Your thread is what inspired me! Such a great attitude. I hope I can have the same throughout this ordeal.

Yes, definitely staying on top of the chest pains too. So many things it could be at this point in the process. It'd be good to figure what caused it.

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Hey guys, if you don't mind, I might just try to keep updating this thread with my experience. It's therapudic to write it down and hopefully it helps others. Yesterday I got the pump off. Great relief! But I was pretty tired and experienced some chest pain before going to remove the pump and then s...

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Today I get the pump out. Looking forward to that, although I hear the next few days after the pump is removed are the worst. Hopefully that's not the case. Cold sensitivity went away. Main side effect has been joint pain and a slight amount of nausea.

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Sleeping with the pump actually wasn't that bad last night. Probably because I had such a long day and was pretty tired. I strapped it on like a messenger bag and left it on my chest all night. I slept like a baby, which between the colectomy and port surgeries is something that I haven't done in a ...

Re: Another new Forum Member.

Not sure if external weather influences symptoms or not. Yes, cold weather will impact the cold sensitivity that comes with Oxaliplatin. :-( Hopefully where you live it will be a warm six months during your chemo treatments. It definitely is good that you are coming in with such a healthy body and ...

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Well good news, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I ate a decent breakfast.i got there and they hooked up the port to draw blood. Didn't hurt by any means but just felt a little weird lol., but the port made everything else super easy. I was there for 6 hours so I had a few s...

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Possible side effects so far:
First bite
Achy joints
Cold sensitivity

None of these have been bad. The cold sensitivity actually kicked in as I was halfway finishing a milkshake. Thought I got lucky and wasn't gonna get that side effect lol. Oh well, room temperature it is.

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

I also have slight joint pain in my hips and knees. I'm wondering if that is related?

Now I have to figure out how to deal with this pump lol

Re: what should I expect on the first day of chemo?

Thanks for the reply. I was curious if I should eat breakfast or not. Lots of different opinions I've found on the internet about that. I think I'll eat something light just so I won't be starving. Thanks for the heads up about the clothing. Im hoping a polo shirt will do the trick for now, until I ...
