Re: What Helped You Make It Through Folfox Cycles 6-8

I was able to finish 12 rounds of FOLFOX with full oxaliplatin, but it took a lot of determination and drive. I exercised and slept (sometimes 15 hours at a stretch) through rounds 8-12. I almost quit eating because everything tasted like cardboard. Pellegrino and soup were my life savers. I did sta...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

That's the one thing I appreciate about those that do hang around. They really help those just beginning their journeys. It was always great when I started mine to ask questions and get advice outside the doctors' offices from those who had previously had the experiences I was going through. It gave...

"The thing about looking at old threads is realizing that people you chatted with aren't around anymore."

This has happened to me, but it makes me strive even more to keep myself as healthy as I can be as a tribute to all those who helped me on my journey.

Re: Adjuvant chemo or not

My cancer was also in the cecum. As you can see, I am a proponent of adjuvant chemo. I was Stage IIIb however. You should definitely get as many opinions that you need from the following: physicians, surgeons and oncologists. They know a lot more than friends, relatives and Google.

Re: Lonsurf- anyone currently taking?

All I can state is that a friend of mine with rectal cancer was on Lonsurf and tolerated it very well without many terrible side effects. I was only on FOLFOX, so can't give you any personal experiences. She was on it for six or so months and was switched to something else that I cannot recall. Sorr...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

I was on FOLFOX. Xeloda might be different. But for FOLFOX, a port is the only way to go. Of course, I don't mind needles at all, and a port makes it even easier. Whatever you choose, have consultations with your doctor regarding ANY side effects......and keep exercising. I even carried around a pum...

Re: Introducing myself, to a club I didn’t think I’d ever be a member of.

I would advise you not to do google searches as they will only mess with your mind. Your experience is your experience, and there are no two exactly alike. Keep doing what you're doing.....EXERCISING, eating right and most of all....stay positive, even on the days you don't think you want to be or c...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

I'm not a hypochondriac, but I now go to the doctor when something is not right with my body, unless it's something I know can be healed with time (i.e. a strained muscle), I go to my GP and discuss it. If it turns out to have a simple solution, so be it. I'm not going to let it go. This point was c...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

Sounds like you are doing all you can do. Stay positive and stay strong, but also stay vigilant. I had a colonoscopy in 2008, was given a clean bill of colon health and told to come back for my next one in 10 years. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2013....flat cancerous polyp in my cecu...

Re: Colonoscopy coming up....gastroenterologist or surgeon?

Since my surgery, my colorectal surgeon has done all my colonoscopies. My gastroenterologist is the one who missed my flat cancerous tumor in the beginning. If I had waited to come back in 10 years like he told me, I probably wouldn't be here. To each his own...but that's my story. I am also happy t...
