Re: Does CEA fluctuate in healthy individuals

CEA again. Yes, it can be all over the place in cancer and non-cancer people. In fact if you would look through a lot of the members on here, their CEAs are really low, like between 1 and 2 and still have pretty advanced cancers. A new, more exact method needs to be developed, I'm sure someone is wo...

Re: Folfiri and Nausea

Folfiri made me feel a lot worse than folfox. Had that sick feeling right away. But it’s an effective treatment, talk to your onc, I ended up having to take strong anti nausea meds all the time. Stay strong.

Re: CEA Confusion

Your CEA well within the normal range, some of us dream of a CEA of 1. On the other hand CEA may not be an accurate marker for you as it was way low when you were diagnosed. In that case I’d be more concerned with good scans than with good bloodwork.

Why Cancer Patients Push Loved Ones Away

I personally preferred to be left alone, people buzzing around me brought me down. Please let the person going through the disease deal with it the way they feel best.

Re: 1st bad scanning... advice please!!

Hey radnyc- if you don't mind, can you share which oncologist you saw at MSK? No pressure, just wondering. Hi Rachel, I’ll send you a pm with my onc’s name. But, I’ll just say that he was always direct, not really beating around the bush. But, honest and was upbeat when things went well. I have no ...

Re: 1st bad scanning... advice please!!

Please remember that although dr. Kemeny is the go to expert on the HAI protocol, the decision is not automatically hers alone. The whole team over there works on the selection and treatment of all the patients. As a matter of fact when I originally went there I had no idea what HAI was or who Kemen...

Re: Baseline CEA levels

Your husband’s case is unusual. I found this case of someone with an extremely high CEA over 1500, who became disease-free and still had a CEA in the 300’s. Maybe he fits this pattern. https://watermark.silverchair.com/hyl110.pdf?token=AQECAHi208BE49Ooan9kkhW_Ercy7Dm3ZL_9Cf3qfKAc485ysgAAAlkwggJVBgk...

DNA editing tool Crispr - can this be the one?

Let’s keep an eye on this trial, Crispr is in my opinion the best possibility for a cure at the moment. Only three patients have been recruited, very advanced cancers, seem to be stable. There’s still much to do. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/06/health/crispr-cancer-leukemia.html?smid=nytcore-ios-...

Re: My recent significant CEA jump.

This discussion is worthy of its own topic, as it’s of interest to so many group members, mods? I found a very interesting article on pubmed: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29579327/ The premise is that CEA by itself may not be such a useful metric for recurrence surveillance. The take away: ...
