Re: hair falling out?

Um, yes. My hair did fall out, about half of it anyway. Initially, I was told by one of the chemo nurses that it was "unlikely" that my hair would fall out. And yet, a few treatments in, when I awoke in the morning, I would note "hair bunnies" on my pillow. I suspect that people ...

Re: Questions - Hoping someone can help

Hello CB, Keeping in mind your family history of CC, as well as some of your symptoms, I'm pleased to hear that you're having another colonoscopy. I'm not certain if a full blood check can miss cancer, but in my case I was misdiagnosed a couple of times (although my blood test did reveal anemia). I ...

Re: Cat Scan Results

I'm very sorry Eve. I can imagine how you would feel in shock right now. The encouraging news is that if the nodules are evidence of metastasis then there is a possibility that they may be surgically removed. I know how hard news like this is, especially around the holiday season. Try, if you can, t...

Re: Flexible Sig. Scope

Hi Eve, If I had a choice I would definitely opt for the colonoscopy. Prior to my diagnosis I had a sigmoidoscopy (I'm not sure if it was flexible or not) which discovered my tumor. The prep f was a self delivered enema (not a lot of fun), and I didn't receive any pain killers for the procedure. Thi...

Re: Folfox - black toenail beds

Hi Jen, Now that I think about it, I did have some toenail discolouration during treatment (only big toes). However, as I was stumbling so much, due to neuropathy, I sized it up to bruises. That said, from what I've read, nail (and skin) discolouration can be common while undergoing chemotherapy. In...

Re: Neuropathy Relief? Help!

I'm sorry Stevie, but the only thing that helped me with the neuropathy was time. For a while there, I was convinced that I would never be able to wear sneakers again, never mind thin socks. However, two years later and I am almost entirely recovered. In fact, I'm wearing sneakers right now. Hang in...

Re: Hands going numb when I sleep

I experienced exactly the same thing during my treatment and for a goodly amount of time following my treatment. Strange, as I'd totally forgotten about the symptom until your post. In my case, I would awake in the morning with numb hands, and yes, it felt as if I'd slept on my arm the wrong way and...

Re: 21 yrs old - Colon tumor

Hello Scott, Okay, take a deep breath. I imagine that you’re feeling more than a little bit rattled right now, and understandably so. Good for you for reaching out to people, that’s a very healthy thing to do. The good news is that you’re in good shape which should really help with surgery and recov...

Re: Neuropathy--Gets worse before it gets better?

Hi Brigita, I can relate - the neuropathy does get old after awhile. I also suffered pretty badly from neuropathy, however, it didn't really set it until treatment 10, and, as my oncologist predicted, worsened when I concluded chemo. It seemed to reach its height a few months after concluding treatm...

Re: doing this alone

Hello Carrie, Doing this alone is incredibly hard. Frankly, I don't really know when, or if, there is a "right" time to reach out to hospice/palliative care, however, from what I've learned, there are professionals who have been specifically trained to deal with end of life issues: people ...

Re: Early recognition of CRC symptoms in younger patients

Good article Wendy. Thanks for sharing. I thought that it might be a good idea to respond to the following criteria: Clinical features in symptomatic patients included: Rectal bleeding (51%): Yep. Bright red, yet not, as initially suspected by my GP, hemorrhoids. Change in bowel habits (18%): Yep. I...
