Re: CEA and scans

My husband was a stage IIbT4a and he had his CEA with scan every three months during treatments and for the first year and a half after treatments finished. The was followed every 6 months with CEA and scan for another two years, then just once a year. Now coming up on our 9 year anniversary from th...

Re: Bad symptoms every 5 days

Could it be from stress in waiting your CT results. I know when my husband had a ct, the days before and days after, waiting for the results would really play with my digestive system. Anxiety and stress would take about 10 pounds off me every ct time.

Re: Positive fecal occult test

My husband really had no symptoms of colon cancer. He had a scope only because of a positive fecal test and because he turned 52 and was due anyway. He had a 3.6 cm tumor in his cecum which is the beginning of your large intestine. Ended up having major surgery follow by 6 months/12 hits of folfox. ...

Re: Question- how do you count years of survival?

We were told by our oncologist at MDA that the clock starts the day of surgery if all visible know cancer was removed. If not all the cancer was removed, then it starts after chemo, when you obtain a clean scan. I guess that would determine years of remission. Years of survival, what your asking, wo...

Re: Rising CEA - What would you do?

I think I would insist on a Pet scan. I may not show anything, but then again it may. If something is going on, the earlier it's detected, the better.

Sorry your going thru all this added stress.

Re: Helping husband through this difficult time

I remember my husband feeling the same way. He also became unemployed because of his cancer which made him feel even worse, like he couldn't even support his family anymore. It was a very difficult time for him and in turn me. We did get thru it, and you and your husband will too. I think all these ...

Re: What to expect when chemo is finished

My husband did 10 hits of folfox and two without the oxiplatin. He is 8 years out of treatment now and only has slight nephropathy on the balls of his feet. It really doesn't bother him. He did have it pretty bad on his feet and fingers while going thru treatments, but after about 3-4 months post tr...

Re: Had to have high hopes for a living...

Attitude is half the battle. Also being treated by major cancer centers with experienced doctors is a Hugh plus. Sounds like you have both those things in place. I always felt better when things started happening because to me it was the big start of kicking the hell out of the cancer. I completely ...

Re: Adjuvant chemo or not

My husband 's cancer was also down by his appendix. It was actually in his cecum, but they also removed his appendix because it grew into the orifice of his appendix. He was a stage llt4a. Because of the t4 status, they highly recommended chemo. My first thought when I read your e-mail was, have you...

We had our genetic testing all done at MDA and I remember it taking about 4-5 weeks.
