Re: New Year's Eve poll

2013 was filled to the brim with bad news. Almost every Dr's appointment for the first 6 months of my journey resulted in bad news and the ensuing depression. My greatest wish for 2014, other than the obvious wish for a cure for everyone, is that news will be mostly positive and that I stay as upbea...

Re: Colonoscopy Today

Great news! Congrats on getting some good news on your cancer journey. We can all use some every once in awhile... I'll be due for a colonoscopy in April, and will also be done through my stoma. Any tips or comments on the procedure via the stoma? Did you require meds/sedation? Does ot hurt at all? ...

Re: Depression

Like many others, one part of dealing with depression for me was to take medication. A low dose of Cipralex has helped me cope with both depression and anxiety. Other than that, I share my feelings with my family and friends, consult a psychologist and started doing things that feel good to me, like...

Re: When surgery makes you happy

Thanks so much for putting things in perspective for me. I've been dreading the fact that i might have surgery after my chemo is done, but you made me realise how silly i'm being. Anything that helps us get to a cure is a great thing and definitely something to look forward to. Congrats on your surg...

Re: A day in the life...

I've had my permanent colostomy for 3 months now, and since then, I feel like I've gotten my life back. Side effects from radiotherapy and the tumor's location caused me a lot of pain and a lot of bathroom issues. Going to the toilet between 25-30 times a day was not fun, needless to say. Even if I ...

Re: Any advice for someone starting Folfox

I'm a newbie at this, having done only 3 rounds of FOLFOX so far. From the start, I was surprised by how uneventful the infusion part was. I kept expecting that i'd start feeling sick but I never did. Just slept through most of it, since I didn't get a good night's sleep the night before. Round #1 w...

Re: Gross out moment today

@guinevere I'm sorry to hear that it took 18 months for your wound to heal. I'm really hoping that it will be quicker than that, but there isn't a lot I can do about except follow dr's orders. I also head for the dilaudid if I do any extended sitting or walking, but dilaudid sure beats feeling pain!

Gross out moment today

I had a follow-up appointment today with my surgeon and wound care nurse for a perineal wound left over from my APR surgery. The wound has been irrigated and packed with gauze on a daily basis by home care nurses for 5 weeks now. It seemed to get a bit better initially (less pain) but took a turn fo...

Perineal wound

I'll start off by saying 'Hi folks'. I've been lurking on this forum since my diagnosis in April. I'm sorry to have joined the club, but am happy that there is a place I can go for information, inspiration, encouragement, sympathy, etc. Thanks to everyone who participates. Here goes my first questio...
