Re: BrownBagger Update

Good to see a new message from you, even though the message is mixed. I don't often come across new messages from alumni who joined in the 2008-2010 period; although I noticed that BevG. is also among the respondents to your note.
Good luck.

Re: Itchy?

Anti-histomines (ex:Benedryl) are effective in dealing with general itching, and Calmoseptine helped with anal itching. Both are cheap OTC drugs.

Re: Daily Imodium?

I only take Imodium when I have diarrhea; I do not take it when I am having a normal day. I've considered taking it as a daily preventative, but am fearful that this may cause constipation. Instead, I take Metamucil on a daily basis, and it works fairly well in preventing both diarrhea and constipat...

Re: Clustering

After a few years of clustering, I finally found what seems to be a reasonable solution. Instead if taking Metamucil once a day which I had tried periodically with limited success; I now use a small amount of Metamucil with EVERY meal. It probably equals a total of about 1 tablespoon per day. No lon...

Re: Tough Decisions

Look upon this dental work as a kind of psychotherapy. The latter is equally expensive, and you do not end up with an improved smile.

Re: rectal cancer- chemo/radiation question

Stage 1 does not involve post-surgery chemo, and Stage 2 usually does not include post-surgery chemo either-except in unusual cases (ex: a family history of CR cancer). Stage 3 almost always involves post-surgery chemo, except when it is contra-indicated by medical problems. I am not certain what de...

Re: Chronic diarrhea

My onc told me most take them with plenty of water to get things moving. Butt, some find success for diarrhea in increasing the fiber but Decreasing the water. Worth considering? . Oncologists stress drinking plenty of water, so I hesitated for a few years in cutting back on water when I was having...

Re: Xeloda Regimens - looking for stats on 1 week on 1 off regimen

I was on the 1 week on/1 off regimen when I was taking Xeloda alone on post-surgical chemotherapy. It was easier for me than the ' 2 week on ' regimen would have been, because the symptoms (mainly hand/foot) did not have a chance to become severe. I read that this schedule was as effective as the tr...

Anyone try VIBERZI for diarrhea??

Since my ileostomy reversal 5+ years ago, I have been having periodic bouts of diarrhea whereby I 'go' 6-7 times over a few hours. I have seen the TV ads for VIBERSI and am thinking of asking my doctor about this new drug.

Has anyone here tried it??

Thanks.

MYSTERY:How does Rectal cancer cause ongoing diarrhea??

Diarrhea results when food moves too quickly through the colon, and the water cannot be adequately absorbed by the colon. I was treated for rectal cancer, with surgery and radiation which did not involve the colon-although I did have a temporary ileostomy. It has been 5+ years since my ileostomy has...

Re: My oncologist dumped me. Officially 5 years NED!

After 5 years NED, my oncologist suggested that if I was still interested in periodic follow-ups then I should come in every 9 months. I decided that an occasional visit to my neighborhood primary care doctor was sufficient. After my last colonoscopy, the gastroenterologist said I should telephone h...

Re: polyp too large and malignant?

A large Stage 3 tumor was found on colonoscopy just 9 years after my prior colonoscopy by the same doctor which was clear. He suggested the tumor had probably been there about 3 years. It was very atypical for a polyp to be formed and to become cancerous in just 9 years. He did not offer any explana...

Re: Severe Constipation After Colectomy Please Help

If I haven't been able to 'go' after 5 days, I take either a Ducolax suppository or a Fleet enema. Either of these will work with me within 20-40 minutes. However, if you currently have a colectomy, you should check with your doctor. If the constipation has lasted only 1-2days, I try to stop it with...

Terrific! Tribute to your persistence, with Memorial having a hand in this also. Good decision to have transferred from that upstate hospital years ago.
