Re: Female Pains AFTER radiation, No Doc will Listen...

Sorry for your discomfort. I had lots of pain after my surgery, but not before. You have my sympathy re lack of sympathy/understanding on what radiation does to delicate pelvic tissue. My advise is to not give up with looking for answers. I know easier said than done, especially when in so much pain...

Phantom rectum pain

I'm not sure if this is what's going on, but I'm five years out and still in pain. I've been through PT and with their help was able to release an adhesion 4 years post surgery. My quality of life kinda sucks. I've got my bowels under control - it's the pain in my ass. Not a sharp pain but a throbbi...

Re: Supplements to help/resolve LARS clustering

You are very new to this process and it will take awhile for your body to adjust. I don't think supplements are the holy grail at this point. MD Anderson has website with info on how to manage your diet post LAR, bowel surgery. Keeping a food journal can be helpful as well as Immodium (if approved) ...

Re: 20% co pay for colonscopy on Medicare?

Thanks Betsy. I got things figured out. Turns out it should have been included with biannual care. Called provider & they took care of it.

Just figuring how to work with medicare and turns out going to provider should be first step and Unitedcare last.

20% co pay for colonscopy on Medicare?

I was hit with a $400 co pay for my colonoscopy on Medicare's UnitedCare. I thought it was covered every two years for high risk and was told that it's a high risk procedure for cancer survivors (same colonoscopy) and considered outpatient surgery and therefore I was subject to a 20% copay. Just wou...

Re: Digestive issues after rectal cancer treatment

Hi KCP. I'm 5+ years post ileostomy reversal and have done a great deal to manage my bowels. I also have increased my carb intake to about double. I can eat veggies but best if eaten with potatoes - seems to be best carb for binding. MD Anderson has a program that's worth looking into. Things that I...

5 years post LAR

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of my surgery for rectal cancer that forever changed my anatomy. With presurgery chemo and radiation my body had a lot to adjust to. The process has taken 5 years. After 3 years I could walk without pain. Rehabbing myself - working specific muscle groups when runni...

Re: O/T ... please indulge me for a sec !

Damned you CR - you made me cry. I don't cry much these days and hearing about BB really sent me for a loop and I cried, and then got off my ass and did something because I COULD. I NEVER forget those who have gone. I don't delete their numbers off of my caller ID. I don't delete their voicemail. Ev...

Re: BrownBagger ....... I don't know what to say

I'm so so sorry to hear this and it's making me so sad. He was such a wonderful human being and so giving. I always loved reading his posts and hearing about his garden. This forum won't be the same (for me) without him. RIP BB/Eric. You will not be forgotten and your courage will stay with me. Peac...

Toilet Timer

So I guess some people spend too much time on the pot doing OTHER things other than pooping. Someone has a Kickstarter project going - It's a timer that has sand in the body that exits through the ass and when emptied it's time to get off the pot. I wanted so badly to comment on how that's EXACTLY h...

Re: A sore bottom- diaper rash med recommendation?

I second the use of a bidet. I'm 4 years post reversal and I made sure I had one installed on my toilet before my reversal - it's a godsend. Barriers can make it hard to get your bum clean - they smear. The bidet gets most of the mess off and I just then blot and dry after. It's the rubbing that's r...

Re: Is bowel regularity possible after reversal?

I'm four years post reversal & still have problems on occasion. The biggest culprits are coffee and snacking. I just had a week off for spring break and got messed up with drinking too much coffee and snacking instead of eating meals. I eat more carbs than I used to and try to remember to take t...

Rant - colon vs rectal cancer

So I just got my reminder from my gastroenterology clinic telling it's time for my colonoscopy because of my COLON cancer. I didn't have colon cancer, I had RECTAL cancer. I'm tired of being lumped in as having had colon cancer when I don't have a rectum which is evidence of having had RECTAL cancer...
