Re: Need to Gain Weight

After my surgery years ago, I needed to put some weight back on, but it seemed there were so few things I really wanted to eat. I would try to add calories to even my bland comfort foods. Canned tomato soup had a dollop of sour cream on top of the bowl, plus shredded cheese. A baked potato had sour ...

Re: Help me understand FIT/FOBT screening tests

FOBT simply identify that there is blood in the stool, there is no way to determine the source. The newer FIT are a diagnostic tool, it seems, and claim to have a high degree of accuracy in detecting CRC. According to a recently published article, FITs are just now replacing FOBTs in the U.S.

Re: (Good) News on anti PD-L1 MPDL3280A / Immunotherapy

The best news about this trial is that it doesn't require a positive test for the required protein. The current single agent MPDL3280A trial requires that CRC patients be positive for the protein, either with a recent biopsy, or from stored material. I've heard numbers that only have of the CRC pati...

Re: An, um, interesting day

Have you considered looking at one of the PD-L1 clinical trials? There are now four different drug companies out there with trials going, although I admit to being partial to The Genetech (Roche) drug, MPDL-3280A, since that is what has kept me off chemo for almost 2 years now. There is a recent thr...

Re: Lasting effects

Scarey, You're only 6 months out of treatment and you're rowing 2 kg a day? Sounds pretty impressive to me. Patience is a hard thing to have when all you want is a return to normalcy. Do what you feel like you can, exercise when you are able, eat sensibly -- with occasional "I deserve this choc...

Re: My soulmate, my husband, my love, Michael is free

I am sorry to hear of your husband's passing. Every time you wrote, the love that you shared came through. I think it was so important that in his last moments on this earth, you were right there with him, hand in hand. Quite a love story. May that same love, and the Peace that passes understanding,...

Re: KathyrnMN

This is one we were all expecting and yet dreading. I don't think I ever told Kathryn how much I admired her. Her treatment was filled with challenges, and she chose to be proactive and become educated, an advocate, and a trailblazer in treatment. Kathryn also seemed to fill each moment of life with...

raym, that's more than interesting. That's downright scary. I have a question, though, and I apologize for not remembering where you are as far as treatment goes. The last line in your signature is about Zaltrap. Are you still on it? If so, how were they able to do any type of procedure right away? ...

Re: mCRC STAGE IV OR RECURRENT PATIENTS thread - ONGOING

Just wanted to say hello to those who "hang out" on this thread more than others. I don't often post here; my troubles pale in comparison to what so many are going though. Jeanette- I have a high degree of respect for my poor kidneys now. I did not know that antibiotics can also be hard on...

Re: Usopen ?

I apologize for the delay in posting the news about Joan (usopen). I was hoping to hear from her husband with permission, but for now will just use her first name. I was fortunate enough to meet Joan last year when she came to NC to inquire about the PD-L1 trial I am on. She was very gentle, sweet, ...

I'm not sure where you are located, but there are now 4 different companies with PD-L1 trials going, Genentech (Roche), Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), Merck, and Medimmune (AstraZeneca). I'm heading out the door right now, but I can put together some more info this afternoon if you like. Or, you can se...

You don't mention Avastin in your signature, but I get nosebleeds quite often when I am on Avastin. For me, they don't necessarily correlate with platelets.

Re: always cold

I think that oxaliplatin has permanently screwed with my internal thermostat. I have such a terrible time getting warm now, even when it is not below freezing outside. The nurses laugh at me because I bring my own electric blanket to treatment. Infusion rooms are always cold, and a regular blanket n...
