Re: Our Kathryn is quite ill... UPDATE AT END

Kathryn's road with this disease has already had so many twists and turns. I've been holding my breath with this one, and am thankful she is doing better.

Re: Valvano Speech

I'm sorry that the Jimmy V speech upset you. Jim Valvano is one of my heroes. I was just out of college at NC State when he led the Wolfpack to the NCAA basketball championship. There were such long odds on them, that I won some much-needed money in the office betting pool. Valvano was a great coach...

I'm impressed with Maia as much as with the research.
Thanks for all the info.

Re: Looking for some advice...Update 10/30

Carm, I am so happy for you! You did it! You win the award for bravery this year! I've got so many questions, but will try to space them out. Bonnie did mention chemo, and if you've already mentioned your status with regards to it I apologize. I was wondering about the requirements for time off chem...

Re: Update, Ramble, Questions ... oh my!

my best advice is to don't delay if you are looking at a trial. They have these windows where they take new patients, then have to wait (maybe even a couple of months) before they add the next cohort. The hardest thing is to line up the patient's window of opportunity with the open window of the tri...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

I guess because of logistics, there seems to be a far greater contingent of MSKCC patients, than of MDA, so I'll speak up for MDA. Seven and a half years ago, I was told my two other surgeons (one the general surgeon that did my colon resection, and one that specializes in oncology) that my liver wa...

Do you mind saying which center have you contacted regarding the PD-L1 trial?

Re: Update, Ramble, Questions ... oh my!

I think Julie is right that infection can cause a rise in CEA, so with Scott's case, it's hard to know what to attribute to disease and what is caused by all the infection he had. If he has just had surgery, I would assume it would be 4 weeks before he could get any chemo, so I would use those weeks...

Re: Cold Feet

I haven't tried them, but I know that hunters can buy battery-heated socks. There are also small chemically heated gel packs (bend the thing just right and the chemicals inside mix, giving off heat). I got mine with a kit when I first started on oxaliplatin, but both the heated socks and the gelpack...

Re: 5 FU pump overdose

I haven't had 5-FU since late 2008, but I remember some sort of display on my pump that counted down. Again, that was 5 years ago, and only a 24-hour pump, but I remember watching the numbers turn over with each annoying little beep. If some pumps have that, then I don't understand why all of them d...

Re: 5 FU pump overdose

Ann, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. To have had your hopes raised that you might have additional time with her, and then to have this happen seems extraordinarily cruel. However you choose to act or not to act regarding the pump dosing, I hope that you yourself find some measure of peace...

Re: what to do about mouth sores

There is also a lidocaine gel which may help with more direct application to the sores than the rinse. There is also a oral steroid gel, triamcinolone http://www.medicinenet.com/triamcinolone-dental/article.htm which I used at night and saw significant improvement in the morning. I've gotten Rx for ...

Re: Insurance Uncertainty

My husband is with a Fortune 500 company, and we have insurance with one of the biggies. This year, for my family of 3, the cost of coverage is approx. $4750. We pay 100% of everything until we meet the family deductible of $4000, then we pay 80/20 until we hit the out of pocket max of $8000. After ...

Re: Gas a colon cancer symptom?

I've given up trying to use all the various prep liquids. I can throw up at the drop of a hat. I now use Osmoprep pills and drink lots of water. I understand that they have a potential for kidney problems if you don't drink enough, so I am careful to follow the directions, plus some. The last time, ...

Re: One year later

janklo My heart still breaks for you because I can't imagine going on in similar circumstances, and I wonder how my daughter (now almost 17) will go on when something happens to me. On All Saint's Day, our church holds a big service. Not only is it an observance for the church, but my particular chu...
