Re: Low electrolytes maybe ? and anemia ?

I know the one time I was dehydrated, I struggled with my thinking and had trouble with balance.

It might be worth calling the on call oncologist. Iv fluids could make all the difference.

Great news, Amy!

The once a year scans make you almost forget you have cancer! Almost.

Re: Gall bladder removal and sigmoid resection?

I had my gallbladder removed about a year after finishing chemo because of gall stones. The stones were the most painful thing I have had to endure. The surgery was a little tricky because of all my previous cancer surgeries but i had no long term side effects from its removal.

Re: local cancer

Hi sorry to hear about your dad’s lack of response to chemo so far. You might want to Look into proton beam therapy. It is not offered in too many places but causes much less damage than conventional radiation. I had proton beam radiation at Mayo Rochester with very few side effects. Hope this helps...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Hi Mike, Glad you finally got in to see your surgeon. That is a tough call on whether or not to do the additional surgery. I haven’t had the obstructions like you have. It would be hard to have an additional surgery and go through all of that again. I hope you are able to get that interview. I think...

Re: Starting point

Welcome but sorry you have to be here. Every case is different but for us rectal cancer folks almost always there is chemo or chemo/radiation first before surgery. When it comes to rectal cancer surgery, experience is what you want to look for. It is pretty tight quarters in their and an experienced...

Re: Advice about resection and reconnection

This is such a tough one. All of us that have the surgery have different experiences. My tumor was less than 1cm from the anal verge and I expected to come out of surgery with a permanent ostomy but my amazing surgeon was able to somehow reconnect everything. For me, there was steady improvement for...

Re: Post Surgery Issues

Sorry you are going through this. Glad you still have your sense of humor. Unfortunately you will need it a while longer, but it will get better. Smaller meals more often seemed to help for me and I took extra probiotics during this phase and still do. For the back side I would suggest Dreft soaks i...

Re: Chronic Abdominal Pain following Partial Colectomy

Hi Ron, Sorry you are going through this. I am not sure I can be of any help but I have gone through some similar stuff. I had a gall bladder attack just over a year after my surgery. They ended up taking it out. It was very painful but up under my rib cage so higher than what you are experiencing. ...
