Re: Stage III's

I also did six rounds of capeox in 2016. My oncologist thought 8 was likely too much, 4 possibly too little, and that six was hopefully the sweet spot. I do have some permanent neuropathy in my feet and fingertips....maybe 5 rounds would have been perfect?

Re: Aspirin question

Timely thread! I have been taking a low dose aspirin for a couple years now as I read similar reports. I have an upcoming June appointment with my Onc at Mayo. It is my understanding that he has published some studies about the use of aspirin to prevent recurrence of CRC. I have met with his NP the...

Aspirin question

Hi...I was reading this recent study about aspirin and rates of colon cancer. My doctor has me taking 81 mg per day...the usual low-dose aspirin. This study suggests that a higher dose might provide more benefit. I will ask about this at my next appointment, but I was curious what your doctors recom...

Colonoscopy

I had my 4 year colonoscopy on Friday (last colonoscopy was 3 years ago) and everything looked great. Mayo changed its instructions.. Low residue diet two days before and only clear liquids the day before. Previously a light breakfast and lunch were allowed the day before. So while I was really hung...

Re: Cancer and coffe????

I don't know if there are any negative indications for drinking coffee during chemo. I never read that anywhere. All I know is that I didn't feel well enough for coffee on the vast majority of days during my 5 months of chemo. I would have a little coffee if my stomach was up to it..usually decaf. O...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I have had a rocky week... Had my CT scan last Thursday at an outside radiology clinic and met with my oncologist on Tuesday. He told me my CT looked good but later called and said he was looking at a scan in the system from TWO years ago. He was an oncologist from Mayo filling in at my clinic and I...

Re: Side effect question.

I was very cold during chemo.. especially my extremities. Kept snuggled under an electric blanket a lot of the time. My feet are still cold all the time from the neuropathy, I am guessing.

Re: Post cancer fatigue

I was on capeox for 4 months over 3 years ago. I have been exercising regularly all along and was in good shape before all this went down. Just in the past 3-4 months, I finally feel like I have more physical stamina. I don't find myself breathless with a little exertion, my pulse is lower. I still ...

Re: Starting Capox tomorrow

I found the cold sensitivity unfun but bearable. The oxy portion was manageable but the thing that kicked my ass was nausea. Taking the capecetabine every day got more and more difficult as the two weeks went on. I felt worse on my week off. I think my case was extreme but I would do everything poss...

Re: Questions about Health Insurance

I, too, have insurance with healthcare.gov. While looking for some other info on my insurer's website, I found that if a certain critical treatment weren't offered in my network, I could go another clinic and still be covered. In my case, they would allow me to go to Mayo Clinic for specialized trea...

Re: Mop up chemo - Port vs non-port for Oxi?

I did six rounds without a port. I did not have any issue at all. I did it in my arm at inside the elbow joint. Cynthia Same here. Found it very doable, switching arms/elbows each cycle. I believe the hot packs that the nurses diligently applied may have made the difference. Keeping the receiving a...
