Re: Having a SCARED SILLY day

I think being scared is a very valid feeling. I wish I had a more encouraging story, but DH's elevated liver enzymes were one of the first clues in the ER that something was up. They did an u/s (they were thinking gallbladder due to his symptoms) and they found spots on his liver there. The CT scan ...

Re: Help plz- discouraged after 3rd Folfox

My dad also sleeps a lot more on folfox than he did on folfiri and it also upset my mom. We have to keep reassuring her that it is NOT the cancer, it's the chemo!!!! I have noticed DH sleeps less on Folfiri then FOLFOX also. He slept through most the infusion on day 1, would be ok for part of day 2...

Re: Help plz- discouraged after 3rd Folfox

Thanks all. He does get Aloxi via iv with the chemo but I will ask about Emend. They sound similar but something just is not working this time even with the anti-nausea before and after. Aloxi and Emend are different. DH's oncologist said about 10% of patients aren't completely covered with just Al...

Re: Help plz- discouraged after 3rd Folfox

Is he getting Emend in his pre-chemo meds? they added that to my DH's regime after round two. Like your DH, he could not keep anything down. It has been a lifesaver and really helped.

Re: Is it just me?

From your sig, it appears you are freshly NED from surgery? If so, it's overwhelmingly likely you Do Not have cancer! So don't tell yourself otherwise. And again if I'm reading correctly, you were stage 1 and therefore do not require chemo. In all massive likelihood, your cancer experience is behin...

Re: Hello, scared looking for advice

Is a CT standard at this point? Do I wait for biopsy reports? If it's not cancerous would I still need a CT scan? A CT is usually used for partial staging. I say partial, because it is really only good at saying if you are stage 4 or not stage 4, because they are looking for spread to other organs....

Re: CA19-9

FWIW, DH had both CEA and CA 19-9 run in the hospital as part of his diagnosis (they were pretty sure it was colon cancer based on the CT scan showing a mass in the colon and 7+ mets in the liver). HIs CEA was <.5 and his CA 9-19 was 13 (with the normal range being <35). So, while I am sure it can b...

Re: Options for inoperable stage iv Rc with liver mets???

I kind of understand the reason though. If you qualify for the HAI pump, you need to go off chemo for 2 weeks before surgery and 4 weeks after. If, it turns out, you are not responding to chemo, it would be a problem to be off anything for that long, especially if they need to switch chemo up. I kno...

Re: Need Best Colorectal Surgeon in US-Anthem case manager

I agree with the above recommendation about Dr. DeMatteo, but he is not a colorectal surgeon, he is a hepatobiliary (liver) surgeon. Now, Dr. Philip Paty, at MSKCC is a colorectal surgeon and he is fantastic. However, if you are trying to stay more local (I assume CC is local to you. I had my first ...

Re: Options for inoperable stage iv Rc with liver mets???

Thank you kandj! When you say tumors limited to liver, what about the primary rectal tumor itself? Was that ever resected or operable for your DH? My DH has the inoperable rectal tumor also and am praying that does not make him ineligible for the hepatic pump They resected the primary when they put...

Re: Options for inoperable stage iv Rc with liver mets???

Thank you all for your prompt and hopeful replies. I have test results into MSK and am praying Dr Kemeny will agree to see my DH. As long as his tumors are just in his liver, she should see him. We were in the same spot as you several months ago. We live near MDA and went there first. They told us ...

Re: Switching from FOLFOX to FOLFIRI due to neuropathy

Hubby has had 4 rounds of FOLFIRI (after 7 rounds of FOLFOX) and he only really had one bad bout of the runs the first time. He does get Atropine right before they give him the irinotecan. I have noticed his hair thinning a little. Luckily he has always had a thick head of hair, so it is less notice...
