Re: VATS surgery/recovery

Roadrunner,
Walk, walk, walk.....and use your breathing exercise thingy (forget the name off hand).

I also had SBRT, but it was done prior to VATS because I had 4 lung nodules (2 in each side) and they would not do VATS until I got at least one lung cleared.

Worked well, still here :D

Re: All Chemo's have stopped working

That's really great to read, Rob. My husband's oncologist does not plan to do any maintenance chemo, and although I know my husband is pretty happy about this (I can understand why), that gets me worried about recurrence (he had lung mets like you, among other things). It's great to know that you h...

Re: All Chemo's have stopped working

I've had cyberknife on my lungs with great success and would recommend it to anyone as a treatment option...especially if your Mother "only" has on lung met. I'm assuming that since she has brain mets they won't do a lung resection since there is more than one organ involved. I made a pers...

Re: I will always be grateful I found Colon Talk

Great post Mike! Almost every obstacle i faced in my journey was discussed at some point on this forum, and for that, I am forever grateful.

This Board got me through some of the darkest moments of my cancer journey.

Thanks again Mike!

Re: Memorial Sloan Kettering Hotel Option Question

We have had good luck with rooms under $200 at the Maxwell. But lately the hotels have all been crazy expensive, maybe due to the holidays? I did contact MSK to ask about Hope Lodge or similar for my last surgery; that is available for free, but only if you have treatment 3 or more times a week. I ...

Memorial Sloan Kettering Hotel Option Question

Hi folks, I've got a friend recently diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer and she is meeting tomorrow with a Doctor there to go over options with her. They booked a hotel room for around $390 a night and that was supposedly WITH the Sloan discount. That sounds like a lot and I was wondering if ...

Re: 10 Years and Counting

From one "old timer" to another....CHEERS and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Us survivors smile instead of frown when someone complains about getting old. I just smile and think "Damn right I'm getting old...beats the alternative"!   8) Great news Fletch, and thanks f...

Re: Surgery stories please! APR

Hi Marie, I did not have APR surgery but I did have LAR surgery and involved many of the processes that the APR has. Basically, the LAR is a sphincter saving surgery and then they create a "j pouch" out of the lower end of my colon to mimic the removed rectum. So, back to your question.......

Re: CRC Veteran Check-In! LAR Syndrome question

Hey Rob, Have you tried seeing a physical therapist? I wonder if they can help break up some of the scarring. Scarring has caused some pelvic pain for me, but PT has definitely helped. Might be worth it if you can find a pelvic specialist to work with. P.s., thanks for the well wishes! Hey there Ph...

Re: Tenesmus Pain

Unfortunately, this is a very real situation and I don't think that doctors, especially family doctors, understand the level of pain Tenesmus can cause during flare-ups. I truly believe that those of us battling and winning our cancer fights become "programmed" to tolerate more pain than m...
