Re: Hair loss on Folfox oxiaplatin

I lost more hair on FOLFIRI than I did on FOLFOX. In both cases, though, I had thinning vs complete loss. Just feels like FOLFIRI was more of a noticeable impact on my hairline and I think the texture changed more with FOLFIRI than FOLFOX, as it is growing back as chemo curls this time around. I did...

Radiation this week at MSK

Scans two weeks ago showed regrowth at the same site on my liver that keeps appearing / disappearing with chemo. Dr K recommended radiation, so that’s the plan starting later today. In proper MSK fashion, I went from scan results to radiology consult to tattooing over the course of about 24 hours; a...

Re: Very scared due to symptoms

My advice is to schedule a colonoscopy.

There are plenty of things it could be besides cancer; nobody here can diagnose you; and you may want to consider seeking support about something that is maybe happening to you vs ask those actively dealing with disease to put your mind at rest.

Re: 5FU maintenance chemo even though NED - thoughts/opinions appreciated

The last time I got to NED, my NW oncologist wanted me to do four more cycles; my MSK oncologist wanted eight. I got to seven before my levels dropped too low to continue, and I’ve been off for about two months and will scan next month. I had to be pretty direct about not wanting to remain on treatm...

Re: 40s and cancer

I can’t even tell you how many messed up marriages I’ve seen! When our situation became public, we had tons of people in similar situations reach out for advice. (This was all before cancer.) Just trying to make sure you go in with eyes wide open. I did not, and even though I am now happily remarrie...

Re: 40s and cancer

Thank you all for your input. I don’t think I can forgive my husband that he wasn’t there for me. Not sure if I can ever get over it. We have been together for 26 years. But thinking back he wasn’t there for me even in other situations. But he is a great provider. He has worked so hard for us. I kn...

Re: 40s and cancer

My first husband shut me out emotionally during several years of infertility treatment. I thought our relationship would improve once we had kids, because he was so unhappy without them. It didn’t work. And during that period, I fell in love with my business partner / best friend. I’ll spare you the...

Re: Update: First scan since chemo and MSK impact result

Worth investigating: my oncologist eventually prescribed Ritalin for my fatigue / chemo brain. It’s a tiny dose (I have to cut the pill in half) but it’s made a world of difference in terms of me being able to function like normally at work vs feeling like I’m slogging through.

Re: stage 4 with extensive lymph nodes involvement

While I didn’t have lymph node involvement, I DID have tumors so large that I could feel my liver protruding beneath my rib prior to diagnosis. A scan revealed it was 80% tumor, and the first four oncologists all gave me 1-2 years to live. I started working with a fifth, who said anything was possib...

Re: to HAI or not ... anyone regret it ???

There was one active member here whose husband did it, and had a bad experience and I know she regretted it. I cannot recall her name however. I’m curious why they think the HAI pump would work if he’s grown resistant to chemo. Are they planning to use a different type? Once it’s installed, it’s not...

Re: Does FOLFOX turn your hair to straw?

My oncologist assured me, most people’s hair only thins, but I lost most of the hair on the top of my head. I had 9 rounds of Folfox. It came back in very frizzy and dry. Using a hair dryer made it worse. I started using products for curly hair, which improved it’s appearance. It has been 9 months ...

Re: Does FOLFOX turn your hair to straw?

Since I started chemo, I have what I have called “Albert Einstein hair!”

Olaplex #3 overnight treatments help, as does leave in conditioner. I also now have to wash it only once or twice a week vs daily.

NED: Let's hope third time is a charm!

Last time, everyone seemed convinced I would recur - and in fact, I did. Then Dr Kemeny ordered one round of 5FU + Vectibix to prep me for an ablation, then changed her mind and ordered 4 - and my met disappeared. She ordered 4 more "in hopes that will wipe it out forever" which she felt w...

Re: Gall bladder removal and sigmoid resection?

I had mine removed with my colon resection when they installed an HAI pump (anyone with a pump gets it removed). I honestly couldn’t tell whether digestive issues were the result of that or my colon resection; but either way I didn’t notice much difference after a few weeks time. Incidentally my ste...
