Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

I am so happy to be rid of imodum and lomotil! They are helpful in a pinch but I really feel they were not good for me on an ongoing basis. I felt fuzzy-brained and depressed and I have read recently that anti-cholinergics are associated with dementia. Yikes! I have renewed energy since kic...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Hey Tammylayne - First, it is good to know that the your bowels functioned (if sub optimally) after the long period of daily enema use. Some people have tried to dissuade me from the idea, claiming that I won't be able to go at all on my own if I start down that road. Didn't sound believable to me, ...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

And if so, does anyone remember if there was a certain time frame before enemas were allowed to be used? I will certainly ask my surgeon before attempting to use one no matter what info I get on here, but I was curious to hear if any of you had information or had considered using one as a one time ...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

So my question is why would someone prefer to control their bowels with drugs, medications etc rather then trying the enema that only involves tap water and a little time? Before I did the enema I often wondered and worried about what effects all of the immodium etc would have on me over the long t...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Hang in there Jim. I know only too well how frustrating this journey is, but time really does bring some improvement. So much so that my partner and I have taken the plunge  and booked ourselves on a cruise from Oz that calls into NYC in July. My first ever time to NY so I expect you to have ...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Waiting for approval to try enema (was reversed two months ago).

In the meantime, anyone have any theories on the integration of Imodium and Dulcolax (or the like) to control timing? Thanks.

Nausea is the worst. Very sorry that you had that kind of week, but glad the staples are coming out. Hope you are feeling better as you move into the weekend. Hang in there!

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

In fact I've found laxatives better for improving consistency and predictability. Thanks Jan - when you have a moment I'd be interested in hearing about this. I'm doing 4-6 Imodium/day on the theory it slows the bowel, but would be interested to know what you meant about laxatives vis a vis consist...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

A smoothie? I had a banana, strawberry yogurt & I forgot what else but it had orange juice in it. You might need to watch out for seeds tho. I'm gonna get another one & watch them make it. Hubby's nurse was calling at the time & I didn't pay attention. Maybe I just had them put a little...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Your stools are narrow because your passage is narrow. Our days of rectum sized and shaped poops are over! Well that's logical - hadn't really thought of it that way. Thanks. :D Much easier day. Just Heather's Tummy Fiber today (no Metamucil), and a pretty close to BRAT diet. Couple of long soaks i...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Thanks Sams Wife - I really need to get something for these spasms in the meantime, I guess. I end up taking pain meds, but I can't spend the next two months sitting around getting half-smacked on pain meds. There must be a better way. Hey Jane - thanks - I think I will do that - I find that sometim...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

Hey all - Thought I'd update. Things seem to be improving a bit (now 6 weeks after reversal) although still going quite a bit (20+ times/day). Bathroom trips are grouped now, in what I call episodes, rather than just going on all day. Episodes can range from 2 to 4 hours. My joke with my family that...
