Re: Feeling hopeless. Para aortic nodes-inoperable?

The genomic tumor testing could be important so that they can know exactly what they are dealing with and maybe better target with more appropriate chemo drugs or chemo drugs in clinical trials. TIL at NCI might be an option when they know as well.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I finally took a shower this morning (you're not supposed to get the chest port area wet for 72 hours after surgery) and taped a piece of Saran Wrap over my chest. It might actually have been easier just to wrap it around my body but that would have used more material. Much less pain though I can fe...

Re: Hand Foot Syndrome Prevention

There are a couple of things related to HFS prevention that should be mentioned before the start of therapy. One of these is the recommendation to have a good pedicure/manicure before starting chemo. Other suggestions for minimizing the impact of HFS are given in the quote below. This might include...

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

The G12D mutation results in an amino acid substitution at position 12 in KRAS, from a glycine (G) to an aspartic acid (D). https://www.mycancergenome.org/content/disease/colorectal-cancer/kras/34/ So yes, G12D. Thanks a lot! I called NCI and a lady gave me this trial contact information. I was a l...

Re: CT Scan Just came in Liver Met (one)

I had the port installed on Friday and some soreness that evening. I was able to drive after a lot of sleep the next day. There are some annoying things about it so far related to moving my arms around at shoulder level that I need to use my left hand for now. But I don’t notice it most of the time.

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

For most patients, adoptive cell transfer starts with an operation at the National Cancer Institute. By removing one of your tumors, we are able to find and grow the immune cells that live there, known as tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes or TIL. We will grow and study TIL from your tumor in our labs....

I only learned about Raynaud's recently from a co-worker. He was wearing a light jacket on a cold day and he said that he does it as wearing heavy stuff doesn't help as the body adjusts.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I sincerely hope that the cold sensitivity isn’t bad for you. It’s bad for me - it’s been two weeks since chemo and I still have it. But for others it seems to last only a few days. This round has been timed with a sustained freeze (I am also in the Northeast.) Really annoying, but at least I don’t...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I took the bandage off yesterday afternoon (was supposed to be removed after one day), and I'm not supposed to get it wet for 72 hours (which is tomorrow morning at around 11:00 AM). I had a look at my chest this morning and noticed a partial ring around my breast that was pinkish. I assume that thi...

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

NHMike The great thing about this trial is it doesn't matter what your cancer mutations are. What they do is remove a cancer cell find what tumor infiltrating lymphocytes live in that tumor and they design cells that will attack that tumor type. So genetic makeup of the tumor isn't really important...

Re: Anyone with Stage IVa just do Xelolda or 5-fu?

Thanks for the pdf. I hope to find some time this weekend to look at it. I am so swamped with work, it's crazy! Husband has done remarkably well this round. He went to work right after his infusion yesterday and went to a late night showing of the new Star Wars movie. He does have cold sensitivity ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Take something for pain this evening. The numbing agent they gave me lasted 10 hours, then I started to feel it. They poke and prod and tunnel through tissue to place the port, it will be sore for a bit. I made it through with Tylenol. Press N Seal works great to cover the surgical site when shower...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Congrats on the successful port placement! Definitely set up reminders, but also know that the mail order pharmacy will likely robocall you when it’s time to order new pills. That’s what they do with me anyway. I use Briova Rx. That's who we use as well. They did send me a reminder today but I'd li...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Port is installed and leaving in half an hour. Overall mostly painless. I do feel it though, when moving around. I went in around 7 and was out before 11 walking out without a wheelchair. It was easy and fast with minimal pain (just a couple of needles). I have to take antibiotics for three days and...
