Re: Checking in.....STILL here, question for NED'ers

Hi Judy. I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. I agree with you about the post reversal lack of help. Some hospitals have a Bowel Management Team to help with the after effects. I think MD Anderson has one. I've had the same gastro doc for all my colonoscopies since my diagnosis & every...

Re: My body is high maintenance

Oh Kristi, I so agree with you! My body is high maintenance is a PERFECT way to describe it, on so many levels. I sincerely thank you for giving me a new catch phrase when someone asks me how I'm doing. Janie Thanks Janie that's why I wrote that. Figured I wasn't alone & was tired of the misund...

Re: Disability

Hi BigRob. I just posted a bit about my disability under "my body is high maintenance". I was diagnosed in 2012 and got disability starting in dec 2012. I continued to work and made myself ineligible for ssd due to income - I was OK with that. In June of 2015 I had to go back on SSD becaus...

My body is high maintenance

So as I'm trying to make peace with my disabled self, I find it increasingly difficult to convey my life to other people. I was on a hike recently and explaining how I work on disability - 6 days as a substitute teacher - $185/day - and her comment back to me was " that leaves you with a lot of...

Re: Weight gain post surgeries

Its important to make sure you get plenty of protein to help build muscle. Frequently weight loss is related to lack of exercise and muscle atrophy. It's difficult to exercise sometimes if there is pain. I have found that when I exercise I have a better appetite and eat better. It is a slow process ...

Re: Rant: enough is enough!

I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time & have so much to deal with. Wish I could help & with breathing issues I thought maybe peppermint oil (if you like it) might help. I just put a couple of drops in my palms, rub my hands together & inhale. Any port in a storm. Peace, Kr...

Re: Frozen finger cot

To Teri and Chrisca I have tried both epsom salts and a gel pack up my cheeks. Both are effective butt I just wanted something that would be more direct. They all have their place.

Thanks,

Kristi

Frozen finger cot

So I vacillate between foot pain and ass pain. Was thinking of going to an activity that would require me to sit and my ass had started bothering me - sooooo I decided to ice it. Now you may ask, how does one ice one's ass? It's not easy and I HAVE taken one of those long blue ice bags and put it be...

I believe many of us had radiation with chemo BEFORE surgery which eliminates worries over jpouch. I can believe it would be a problem to do it after.

Re: Biofeedback and PT for LARS

Recovering from an LAR takes a VERY long time & requires a ton of patience. Everyone's body is different & we all respond differently to the trauma of surgery/treatment. I found Immodium to be a life saver - helps slow down the gut to allow more time for more water to get absorbed. I also fi...

Re: Neuropathy from Xeloda???

I was on xeloda & ended up with a bad case of HFS that lasted for 3 years. I still have foot pain if I'm on my feet too long or wrong shoes. I had typical 26 doses pre surg & had to stop post because of HFS. Was told 3+ years from different provider that maybe I was a "bad metabolizer&q...

Re: Just an O/T rambling

I post on FB butt not when it comes to my cancer journey. Not looking for sympathy, just understanding, and know that won't happen on FB. This site is my source of strength when needed.

Peace, Kristi
