Re: elevated cea

Sorry, I'm a little confused. Do you have a history of colon cancer? If not, why is your doctor checking CEA? CEA can be influenced by inflammation. Did your doctor also test ESR or hsCRP? If so, were they normal? Conditions other than colorectal cancer that may elevate CEA levels include smoking, i...

I'm so very sorry. What a terribly tragedy to lose someone so young. :(

Re: Freaking out about reoccurrence!

Try not to get too freaked out. It would be unusual to see lung mets before liver issues in someone with colon cancer (rectal tends to be the other way around). Not to mention, benign lung thingies are very common in the general population. I have one in the 4-5mm range that's been unchanged since d...

Re: Genetic Testing- Results are Negative

That's great, DE. So glad to hear you finally got an answer after all this time. It's frustrating to still not know why you grow so many polyps, but Lynch negative is always a good thing. Have a glass of wine and enjoy the happy news!

Re: Not allowed to do chemo / nervous

I would be happy to hear the names Ipas. The cardiologists don't want me on any supplements until after I get my ICD. I was able to get in early (yesterday) to the EP doctor. Apparently once you have Sudden Cardiac Death (I was technically dead for almost 10 minutes I have learned) that your risk, ...

Re: Not allowed to do chemo / nervous

Very scary, Maelleous--so glad to hear you're OK. If interested, I have a few names of good oncologic naturopaths that I'd be happy to pass along. The folks I've been working with are very data-driven and I have a lot of confidence in their expertise. The key on the naturopathic side, is to make you...

Re: What supplements

Thank you Lpas! I checked my Vit D level at the end of my chemo. It was 37ng/ml without any supplementation so I usually take 5000 iu. I have not started neither Celebrex nor Aspirin since my platelet level during last months used to be low.I cautiously started Aspirin. I need to experiment with di...

Re: What supplements

This article provides some great (research-based) recommendations with suggested dosages at the end: http://www.lifeextension.com/protocols/cancer/colorectal/page-01 Other than that, I agree with Deb and Mariane. Have you had your vitamin D levels tested? If not, I'd see if your doctor will check fo...

Re: CEA rise

Very common issue. My pre-chemo CEA was 1.0 and my first post-chemo CEA was 3.0. That was 18 months ago and my CEA still hasn't returned to pre-chemo levels. From what my oncologist has told me, many long-term survivors never return to their original readings. Seems like no one really knows why this...

Re: Should I really test for Lynch?

Do it. The chances of a positive test may be low but, as others have said, there really is no downside and lots of potential benefit.
