Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

One week delay. Doctor was wearing a mask as he has a cold. He said that a lot of staff have it too. It's supposed to be in the mid-80s here today so that will be nice if I can get outside. Stuff is piling up at work. CEA was flat at 2.8 which is a relief.

Re: FINALLY Staged, Timing of 2nd opinion (with Clinical Trial option complicating matters)

A very hard decision. I had a much larger tumor (100 cm^3) and I think that I'd credit the radiation for doing more of the work than the Xeloda though the Xeloda likely checked any spread. My personal opinion is that the 5FU/Oxaliplatin was tougher on my than the Xeloda/Radiation. I think that eith...

Re: Neuropathy? Radiation Side Effects? Nutrition/Exercise/Stress?

Also, if I am understanding you right, NHMike, you seemed to have long chemo cycles. I will get chemo every other Monday for 4 months. So, that's a 2 week cycle, right? If you got symptoms 2.5 weeks into your cycle - then it must have been longer. I am STILL LEARNING SO MUCH. You are all so informe...

Re: Neuropathy? Radiation Side Effects? Nutrition/Exercise/Stress?

Thank you so much for these responses. I wonder why I no longer get emails/ notifications when people respond? (I did last month...and have changed nothing.) Everyone here seems to know so much. I don't know what some of these means. What is Xelox? And what do the percentages mean? Thank you for th...

Re: Neuropathy? Radiation Side Effects? Nutrition/Exercise/Stress?

The neuropathy for me is tingling in the fingers at the top knuckles. It can spread down knuckles as well and I had it in my feet though it didn't affect me as much. The tingling can be a major nuisance. I was at 100%, 100%, 70%, 65%, 0%, 55% on Oxaliplatin. The 0% is where we skipped it for a cycle...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Got my labwork back. No wonder I'm so tired. H&H had a pretty big drop (they were already lower than normal). Platelets were down. I'm wondering if we continue tomorrow or not. If we do, I'll look to Xeloda only, maybe dropping it to 3,000 mg from 3,500 mg. I probably won't get the CEA until tom...

Do you have a list of the mutations? I'm just curious here - I've never run into someone with that many.

Well said.

I think about printer technology and building parts with just design work but the learning curve to using those things is steep.

Yet we are building medical parts with this technology.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Two days before infusion and I'm generally feeling better though hands and feet are still present but the fatigue that I had for 2.5 weeks is a lot better. One oddball thing today. I had to remove a noodle that was four inches in the bag. It wouldn't come out so I pinched it in the bag and the long...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

How is it going with the training? I ran 4 x4 minutes yesterday with an app that is calculating your VO2 max (max oxygen uptake). I had 59 before diagnosis and I am now back to 52 last week and 53 this week. Slowly coming back. It is so nice to run because, even with the bag and lack of training, i...

Re: Life Earthquake: Wednesday Feb 21 Rectal Cancer T3C N2 M0

Part of the chemo is some pretty intense meds to help with side effects, nausea. They make Friday and Saturday okay but by Sunday I am beat. The cold intolerance is mentioned by all and it is hard to overstate how strange and uncomfortable it really can be. I am tough, thought it would be a nuisanc...

Re: Life Earthquake: Wednesday Feb 21 Rectal Cancer T3C N2 M0

I have been really diligent using the Utterly Smooth cream twice a day for my hands and feet and am so grateful for that advice. I have been able to balance working and having my clients not know what is going on with my diagnosis or treatment as it would be destructive to my business. Any hints on...
