I didn't know him but I read his posts and so appreciated what he had done and was doing for people like me. My heart is heavy. Sending love to his family and to all who loved him.

Re: Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

I also alternated opiates with Tylenol. Constipation from opiates after my first Caesarian section was so bad that I took them as little as possible after my CRC surgery. Colace, walking and water were my friends. With an open scar, it may take longer to wean off the Percocet and Dilaudid, but I wou...

Re: Inconclusive Biopsy

Did you have a CT guided needle biopsy? Core biopsies can sometimes not get enough of the nodule to yield a diagnosis. It can happen, especially if it is small. Sometimes people attempt a repeat biopsy or a different method (surgery), but the latter is probably the same as just taking it out. There'...

Re: Results of PET scan and questions about the liver!

PET shows up as bright when there is increased uptake of glucose in a part of the body, which can happen with cancer, infection and other conditions. Cancer tends to have higher SUV than infection, but if the lesion is small, the SUV is not reliable. Although the SUV value can favor one diagnosis ov...

Re: Having open colorectal surgery 11/09/2017

Sounds like you have a great team in place and are well informed as to what to expect (as best as one can be). I wish you a successful surgery and uneventful postoperative course. May things go as smoothly and painlessly as possible. Will be thinking lots of good thoughts on Thursday.

Re: Liver spot seen on CT...Should I be concerned??

CRguy, I recall you said you were a vet in reply to one of my posts. What an interesting background in addition! I love reading your posts. When I get scared, I come on the forum to not feel alone.

Re: Ct scans

Thyroid: Chest CT scans usually include only part of the thyroid. Depending on where your scan starts, it could have not been in the field of view of prior scans. Alternatively, someone could have seen it but declined to mention it because it didn't look suspicious (low density lesions in the thyroi...

Re: Liver spot seen on CT...Should I be concerned??

Liver protocol CT and MRI have different strengths and weaknesses. Feel reassured that a CT in 6 months will have higher spatial resolution than MRI and can thus evaluate change in size a bit better. If you ever have questions, you could discuss it with the radiologist. I defer surgical decisions to...

Re: Thoughts on chemo for stage II patients?

I am stage IIA and opted for adjuvant chemo with Xeloda 6 months. I'm halfway through. I got multiple oncologist opinions, and I think with the new data discussed in the CRC conference this past June, more people will recommend "a little Xeloda" for Stage IIA. A little meaning maybe just 3...

Re: Having open colorectal surgery 11/09/2017

Hello -- Sounds like the mass is rectosigmoid but they think it's COLON and not RECTAL. Otherwise you would be having neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Given its location, it is unclear to me why you need to have open surgery. Is the surgeon a board certified colorectal surgeon? If not, I would suggest fi...
