Re: What's your take?

I really don't know what is to come. There are always promising treatments in the news, but many times they are at the research level and years and years away from a commercial product, if it comes through (or even makes it to) trials. I really think we need something dramatically different as the d...

Re: Question about clinical trials

I've only been on one (very short time). The trial provider(s) paid for study drugs, study lab work, ekgs, chemo infusion, etc. I was responsible (through my insurance) for standard things, standard meds (anti-nausea) general labs (blood), CT scans, etc. I was given a form that covered the financial...

Though it will probably insult believers the movie "The Invention of Lying" is a good one related to a being controlling people.

Re: CLINICAL TRIALS- A way through the Maze- GUIDES NEEDED

I agree the maze of clinical trials can be daunting. I'm a software developer so computer are second nature to me, but for most people I'm sure it's difficult to navigate. I think the problem goes much deeper. Oncologists are too busy to steer patients in the direction of trials. Even worse some may...

Love this line "Cancer doesn’t make us heroes. It presents us with opportunities and challenges us to learn and grow and it’s up to us what to make of them."

Re: Chemo a no-brainer??

Orcares- The onco recommended the port first. They said that if the IV did not go well, we could switch to the port. Family feels like it would be easier to just take pills, go to the hospital every 3 weeks instead of 2, and not have maintain the 48 hr pump. I guess we shall see how it goes. The 48...

Re: I need to vent

Personally other than donating, I don't have the tons of time nor energy to get wound up in campaigns and everything else. Much of my time is consumed by deal with treatments and downtime with this disease; trying to work full-time; dealing with keeping things together at the house (maintenance); sp...

Re: Chemo a no-brainer??

Port installation was one of the easiest medical procedures I've had. I would go for that over the potential mess of trying oxaliplatin by IV. Or alternatively a PICC line though they come with a good bit of care and maintenance.

Re: You're really gonna love me now!

I was raised a Catholic but now more into religion from a spiritual sense. I don't like organized religion. If someone offers prayers to me I accept them but really don't think in general there is a man upstairs governing my day to day life. Once on a trip in Italy, my wife's Mom (off the boat Sicil...

Re: Ugh. In hospital with pevic abscess - updated 9/21/14

Ugh.. That's not so super... I had one patient tell me they're a poor mans private health insurance as you get your own room... Hope you're out soon and self managing it at home! You're right on the hospital infection control protocol. They need to minimise the chance of spread. Hope the antibiotic...
