Re: Anyone heard about TAS102?

Perhaps this link to Wikipedia will be useful. As I recall reading it seems to be more commonly used in Japan for some reason. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trifluridine/tipiracil Its a similar to Xeloda or 5-FU treatment, though is newer. I think if you search for it using the search function on th...

Re: Zantac and Colon Cancer

Grouse Man, With these law suits, how on earth can they possible prove that the individuals cancer was specifically caused by the product or whatever they were exposed to? How did the guy who won his suit against round up weed killer prove that his cancer was caused by that specific product and tha...

Re: Zantac and Colon Cancer

One of my friend has thyroid problems. She was on a medication that worked great, then suddenly she started having problems again. Looking into it, she learned that the manufacturing, which was originally all made in Germany (I think), had been outsourced to China; the active ingredient is the same...

Re: Zantac and Colon Cancer

Ah, yes I see, but I feel this adulteration of the Zantac active ingredient was a recent issue, once it had gone OTC and its synthesis was farmed out to multiple API manufactures. See often years later a particular drug is not synthesized in the facilities owned by the patent holder or a pharma comp...

Re: Zantac and Colon Cancer

It was recommended by 3 different OBs! Tums wasn't cutting it, so they said to get the Zantac. I mean, it totally helped with the heartburn. I just have to wonder if that might have caused my cancer. Maybe. Maybe it was just bad luck. Who knows. I'm just so pleased to be in NED status. No matter ho...

Re: Still at the hospital :(

Glad your husband is feeling better. That walking is very important to wake everything up again and to get things moving through the digestive system! His appetite should improve. Glad this has worked out well for him!

Re: Still at the hospital :(

We did know about this recurrence in his colon.....he did have radiation on this area, but it obviously didn’t work....also, the initial plan for August’s surgery was to remove the nodes AND that section of his colon/rectum....the surgery was aborted to give him the opportunity to start treatment A...

Re: Pd-L1 high

This means your dad might actually be a good candidate for a PD-L1 inhibitor. This is usually a bad sign as PD-L1 inhibits the immune system from attacking the cancer. Inhibition of this in people with high expression in combination with chemotherapy seems to have much better results. At least in lu...

Re: Joe Rogers (1974-2019)

Sorry for you loss. I like the Dr Who tribute in the Tardis cookie jar! I've still not found an appropriate container for my wife's ashes yet. They are still in the plastic box I received them in. You rock! I am sure he is pleased. I would be interested in hearing about the trials. Although I have l...

Re: Promising new research

The original paper cited in the Cell Chemical Biology journal they also used CB-839 which is a Glutaminase Inhibitor which may be found in 6 Clinical Trials mostly having to do with Lung Cancer. Its all promising work, but very early stages using this combination of GLUT-1, and GLUT-3 transporter in...

Re: DK37 Science Posts List

Here is something interesting I came across today. It concerns supplemental Anti-oxidants and NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) in particular. Have a look at the following post in The Pipeline by Derek Lowe. https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2019/10/04/n-acetyl-cysteine-a-warning-shot Implication...

Re: Anyone taking artemisinin?

Her cancer was quite advanced and discovered far too late. No Chemotherapy would have been able to save her and she was not a candidate for surgery. Her oncologist was not open to a lot of unproven and by that I mean things not supported by clinical trials. I am not a doctor. I was a former drug dis...

Re: Anyone taking artemisinin?

I was interested in researching the possibilities of this in cancer research over 30 years ago when the chemical compound in this was originally identified and shown to contain a rather unique organic peroxide functional group. I built a case for investigating this to my department director, but he ...

Re: DK37 Science Posts List

OK - Its been a while since I posed anything scientifically interesting. But I saw an publication in Science Translational Medicine ( 11 Sep 2019: Vol. 11, Issue 509 ) which I found very compelling. Title: Off-target toxicity is a common mechanism of action of cancer drugs undergoing clinical trials...
