Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Dear WW-ers, In my first Xelox cycle, I experienced a 2 day constipation in the first week of my first cycle. I took Duphlac syrup and was prescribed Domeperidone and it was resolved immediately. I'm in the midst of my second Xelox cycle (second week) and have been experiencing some more constipatio...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Hi all ! Had my second Xelox cycle 2 days ago ! All seems well ! 1) Asked for infusion to be extended to 4 hours instead of 2 even though doctor didn't think it was necessary as I coped quite well with the aching in the first cycle. I insisted on a prevention better than cure mindset and doc was hap...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Hi, Jolene - I also wanted to reiterate what someone else mentioned here... If your infusion is higher up in the arm, it's not nearly as uncomfortable as in the hand. And if the infusion is ever a little painful, the nurse can slow it down and it helps a lot. My infusions were generally 5-6 hours. ...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Hi, Jolene - it doesn't sound like you have much cold sensitivity.. That's great! Usually the cold sensitivity was wearing off a bit after a week or so following the oxy infusion. I definitely had stomach pains, gas, bloating, etc from the capecitabine. Intermittent diarrhea. My Dr prescribed Prilo...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene, the tingling in the palms is why I suggested not to have the infusion into the back of your hand. The arm/hand ache and tingling slowly get worse with each infusion. It was the third or fourth cycle when they switched from my elbow to hand, but after that infusion my hand was so tender I...

Re: Using a vaginal dilator after radiation

I finished radiation in Feb.. In March I was given two sizes of vaginal dilators to use. I have to be honest and say I used them 2x a week. But then when I started back with chemo, it was somewhat tricky for me to be on a schedule with the dilator use. Long story short. After chemo and my ileosotmy...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hey Nifty - was just thinking about you and wondered if you started Chemo ! Congrats on the good pathology news ! What's your WW surveillance arrangement with your team like ? My mum had a port installed herself a few years back due to colon cancer and she appreciated it. Like you, they often couldn...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Mine had no issue...I believe because the standard of care protocol calls for testing every 3 - 6 months even following traditional methods. The only time my insurance pitched a fit was at after my 5 year mark. They didn't want to pay for the CT scan. Instead they told me that I could have a chest ...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

12 days after my very first Xelox cycle, I'm starting to feel tingling sensations on my palms. Got a teeny "shock" on my fingers when I touched chilled water from the tap - it went away in a sec though. It's still pretty mild but I guessed it's coming !! :| I have also been experiencing in...

Miss Molly - I just noted a post by you that was directed to me a few months earlier on another thread regarding how Dexamethasone could be the cause of mood swings !   I was in an earlier stage of diagnosis and wasn't in the mind frame to take note of it ! I guessed I really s...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Hello all - just thought of reviving this thread which I started months back and perhaps discuss about the psychological impact of cancer on us and those around us. I noted that I started this thread back in Jan 2019, so it's about 3 months back but felt like a life time with all that had gone on ov...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi all WW-ers, I'm curious how does your insurance pans out for WW ? My insurance is happy to pay for all post-hospitalization follow-up tests (MRI, CT, blood works etc..) for now . According to the policy, as long as there is a hospitalization logged in, all post hospitalization follow-ups will be ...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Jolene: Your night sweats and temperature dysregulation could well be correlated to the corticosteroids you are receiving (dexamethasone). Your insomnia and interrupted sleep and heightened energy could also be correlated to the corteocosteroids. You may want to discuss with your oncologist a dose ...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Hi Stoma Mia - My blood tests are quite comprehensive I believed. My onc has plans in place to check in on all sort of blood work every week including all ones that you have mentioned ! It's looking good so far. In fact, he doesn't even want to discuss much of cycle 2 until he is sure that all blood...

Re: Reversals Any positives?

The first week was pretty rough for me. It felt like I was passing razor blades until I discovered Metamucil (psyllium husk fiber) which kind of acted like training wheels for my system. Total game changer for me. It took several months for things to fully stabilize but things have been good ever s...
