I hope you will enjoy the chemo-free (third) weeks, the coming half year.
Best wishes

Re: CEA levels

My onco says if they can shrink the liver tumors enough, surgery can be done. I've just read a lot of bad things about liver resection. Chemo doesn't work all the time unfortunately, but I my case all went well. My tumors reacted well to chemo (CAPOX) from round2 when Avastin was added. Half a year...

Re: PET SCAN

Hi Cherie Besides this 'image numbering' confusion, you may expect your specialist to explain what's significant in terms that humans can understand. No reason to talk about 'not significantly hyper metabolic' spots without explaining it. The PET scan you had, measures metabolism, the process by whi...

Re: Blood Test - Liver Function

Thanks all. I just needed to get the values in perspective. Until I see my team again in October, I'll disregard the alarms /will only start worrying when they shoot up into the ranges that Nik mentions. Heck, I lost 75% of my liver. Can imagine that the remaining part keeps objecting  I'll let...

Re: I'm new and concerned I may have Colon Cancer. Can you help?

Hi Lydia, No need to worry. I've had several scopes done and believe there is little to it. As Nick says, it isn't too bad. I'll do it anytime, if believed necessary. That people are worried about it, may be a left over of the old days when colonoscopies were performed without sedation! Professor Da...

Blood Test - Liver Function

Hi Guys, Have been lurking for a while. Thanks for sharing your experiences and the many heads up. I hope I can ever repay you all. Am recovering well from IVa treatment / busy regaining ordinary life. Last Op was some 20 months ago. Scans are clear and CEA consistently low (around 1.3). April colon...

Re: Weaning of Dexametasone

Hi Frenchie, I'm no expert on this, neither do I have any personal experience with this type of treatment. A quick google search learned that our national society of pharmacists advises against suddenly stopping the intake. They say that: If you have been using Dexametasone for three consecutive wee...

Re: Claw Hand Effect Xeloda - Advice?

Had the claw hands as well; occasionally for a few minutes. This together with most of the other effects. Weirdest was not able to see moving objects during the first hour or so on the way back home after a full day of chemo. Saw individual stills at 1 second intervals, rather than smooth movements....

Re: What they say when you tell 'm

On a lighter side: When I was diagnosed, I had just found someone far away (South Africa) who volunteered to receive a package for me and keep it until our next visit to his country. This without ever having met the guy. We came into touch via an internet site for traveling unbeaten tracks in Southe...

Re: How do they diagnose mets?

Mets need lots of blood and light up quickly after the IV agent is injected just prior to the scan.
(That's the explanation I got, when discussing scan results that showed a few cycts / no mets).
