Re: 18 days in hospital for rectal cancer surgery

What brands of stoma supplies were they giving you? I have a colostomy, so things are generally a bit less likely to be wet, but when I have some bleeding or lots of output the seal will start to loosen. I'm sure that would especially be an issue with an ileostomy. I use Hollister and have found th...

I am sorry, I have no advice to add. Looks like this group provided some good resources to check into. I just wanted to add my support and send you a hug!

Re: 4th cycles done but I cried

It is easy to let statistics give you the weepies! But I honestly believe alot of statistics are outdated and many factors are grouped together - some of which you might not even have. Stay strong! Tell your DR right away about any side effects.

Re: Prep Day

Good luck! Use a cup measure to get an accurate measurement. I just did the 4 liter prep and I drank the 1st bottle too fast. Nurse said to slow way down or I would throw up!

Re: What is it with CEA levels?

My blood work never shows any signs of cancer. Now that you have a diagnosis, just move forward. No use wondering why your blood didn't show signs of disease.

Re: My Chemo/Radiation notes

Pyro...sorry for the late reply...I was in the hospital having surgery. I really tried to include all my notes and can not think of anything else to add. The radiation I had was short and targeted several points/angles at once. I did not have skin issues until the later weeks and certainly 1-2 weeks...

18 days in hospital for rectal cancer surgery

18 days in the hospital. Thankfully we live 10 minutes from the hospital and my husband came 1-2 times a day and my don came most days (except my worse days). If checked in on June 16 and had my surgery early Friday morning (June 17). I have a stoma on the right side, so a small intestines stoma (il...

Re: Sucky Cancer Birthday

Try to enjoy the moment, that is what I do. My birthday was in May - I was really tired from chemo/radiation. I booked a few days where my 12 year old son could attend a tennis camp. Sad that I do not have the energy to play with him myself, but tried to make it a happy time for him. Now my surgery ...

Re: International flight post colon surgery

FloridaLove - thank you for your answer! I am a bit worried, but I figure better to make plans to look forward to, than not make plans and then be home kicking myself for not being able to visit my family! It IS reassuring to hear that 6 weeks post-op is not out of the question, provided everything ...

Re: OT just captured a wild kitten, weeks old, what do I do next

I agree, I would thin out the canned cat food with some water. Easier to eat, will hydrate the poor mite a bit, and will be lighter in his tummy than just the cat food alone. Just a small bit at a time! Do not give him alot at once or he might throw it all up. I always had cats, but my dear son is s...

Re: Young with colorectal cancer?

When I went to the DR, they gave me a digital exam and then called 2-3 more DRs to feel. Then gave me some sort of short scope with a light on the end. They saw something. Then gave me an enema and I had a slightly longer scope and the DR took a biopsy at that time. Nothing hurt! Do not be embarrass...

Re: International flight post colon surgery

I am having surgery on June 17... very low rectum cancer so I had 5 weeks chemo/radiation. I will have a temporary bag. I am a bit nervous, but I have an international flight on August 3 and I will be away 3 weeks. My DR told me to not lift suitcases, under any circumstances and to get help getting ...

Re: Surgery Coming Up Fast

It will be over before you know it! I can not offer a 1st hand experience, but wish you all the best. I have known since early February that I need surgery, but had chemo/radiation first. Waiting is a bit nerve wracking.
