acute renal failure - SECOND TIME!

Maybe it's my choice of TV shows, but I always thought that acute renal failure was a cause of death that was listed on a death certificate, not something one could recover from, especially twice. Apparently my kidneys are very vunerable now, weakened by 100+ doses of Avastin over almost 8 years and...

Re: Is this the start of the decline?

Anytime I'm staying in bed like that, it's a sure sign of dehydration for me. Just wipes me out. Zero energy. Have learned recently how hard it is to eat and drink enough to hold it at bay. Hope your DH is doing better soon.

Re: Update....not so good....

Carmen, I am so sorry to hear your news. I know that you were full of hope about Dr. Rolle getting rid of all the disease, because we were all full of hope right along with you. I am still so proud to know someone willing to step out of the box and travel for such a surgery. I have learned that I am...

Re: Liver Mets - MD Anderson/Advice/Support

lbmotley, Is your current doc referring you, or are you doing the on-line patient self-referral? I started with the on-line, but got my doc involved when I panicked and thought their 7-10 business days was too long for me to wait for an answer. However, both methods work very efficiently. My liver s...

Re: Brain mets -2nd round

Maia, Friends are the family we choose, and your friend chose very well when she included you in her life. My heart goes out to her with these new issues, and to you, with the pain of feeling apart and helpless. I have been blessed with a small, but very precious, number of wonderful friends. Some o...

Can my grilled chicken for dinner count as honorary swingers? If so, count them In your honor as well.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery,

Re: mCRC STAGE IV OR RECURRENT PATIENTS thread - ONGOING

Just a quick note to say you all are always on my mind. I have been out of touch lately with more issues than I have energy right now to explain, but the docs seem to be encouraging (for the short term; nobody mentions long term). So many things I want to comment on, but as I said energy level is lo...

Re: Radiation for lung nodules - what do I need to know

Maia, Again, thank you so much for all the ideas. You are an angel to go to so much trouble. I'm sure your daughter takes after you in spreading kindness all around. I feel so much better about tomorrow's meeting. I see the radiation doc tomorrow, my regular oncologist on Friday, and then back to Dr...

Re: Radiation for lung nodules - what do I need to know

Maia, Your post reminded me of two things: Months ago, one of the trial coordinators at the clinic mentioned that there was a possibility that Avastin "jump-started" the effects of the MPDL3280A so that there was some efficacy even for patients who were negative for the protein. She also m...

Re: Radiation for lung nodules - what do I need to know

Vilca, Thank you for your kind response and your intelligent questions. I just assumed it was SBRT since the doctor's office mentioned marking my body. (This was from a phone call late today). I didn't even know it was possible to do radiation to the whole lung. how many grays and how many sessions ...

Re: Radiation for lung nodules - what do I need to know

kennyt, I really don't know why they waited. I've been on a clinical trial since August 2012. Each time the nodules grew, it was just under the guidelines to where they would have kicked me out of the study. My regular onc has been saying for a couple of months that there was enough progression that...

Radiation for lung nodules - what do I need to know

Backstory: The Dec 27th CT showed that at least 2 of my lung nodules are now "golf-ball-sized." I've had 2 more treatments of the study drug since then, but my cough and ribcage pain kept getting worse. Finally, this weekend, a 104 degree fever, and the resulting dehydration as I sweated i...

Re: Reality has hit me

Ryan, I do not think you are a hypochondriac. I think you are someone who is aware of what is "normal" for his own body and is rightly concerned when that "normal" suddenly changes. And, BTW, pain is never normal. I'm sorry for not writing this earlier but I would have been balli...

Re: mCRC STAGE IV OR RECURRENT PATIENTS thread - ONGOING

Skypup, you have made me cry again. "Merry Christmas, 2014!" That's a prayer I would like answered. In the back of my mind, I thought all along that I would be a rule-breaker with this disease. I guess, pushing 8 years, I have been, but more and more lately, it feels as if the disease is b...
