Re: Worried about chemo port

I’m a nurse although I do not have a lot of experience with the chest chemo ports. As I recall, they are pretty well buttoned down. Unless you see that the length of the tube outside is longer than before, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’d just mention it to the doctor or chemo nurse next time...

Re: Worrying symptoms

Calm down. I don’t mind questions from people who don’t have cancer but I do mind when people act hysterical as if they are on deaths door when they have not diagnosed. Palliative care is the reality of some of the members of this board. Have a little sensitivity when you come to a board of cancer p...

Re: Life insurance, anyone?

It might be beneficial to hire a financial planner. We have had one for 20 years. He has been very helpful in us maximizing our savings/investments and preparing for every possible outcome should one of us die or become disabled. Especially if it’s my husband as I have not worked in 10 years. A fina...

Re: Life insurance, anyone?

It will probably be quite difficult to get life insurance with a stage 4 diagnosis and doing active treatment.

Re: Colonoscopy Scheduled but nervous and looking for advice/talking off the ledge

Only a colonoscopy will tell for sure what is going on. You’ve got one scheduled which is a good thing.

We are not doctors and speculating on what might be your problem would be irresponsible.

Good luck.

Re: Scared I might have advanced cancer

No, thats about the only test they haven't done yet. I'm afraid of having one fearing the results! Does what I have described sound like cancer or alarming? Did you have a colonoscopy? If not, get one. A colonoscopy is the only thing that will definitely diagnose whether or not you have cancer or a...

Re: Scared I might have advanced cancer

We are not doctors and it would be irresponsible for us to speculate on what is going on with you. Take all this information you have gathered about your symptoms and request a colonoscopy. Could be something, could be nothing. But we are not qualified to guess on your situation. We are just cancer ...

Re: Could this be colon cancer?

We are not doctors. We are just colon cancer survivors or loved ones of survivors. Each of our situations are unique. People present with different symptoms or some no symptoms at all. You are seeing a doctor which is the right thing to do for any health concern.

Best of luck.

Re: HELP. Mother’s treatment wrong?

I don’t see anything inappropriate about the care your mother has received thus far. Until the pathology report is back, it’s a waiting game. No plan can be made until pathology is done. She can’t do any kind of chemo if it’s needed until 6+ weeks after surgery. She may not see an oncologist for a c...

Re: positive FIT test and rectal bleeding

There is no reason to assume you have cancer. Hemorrhoids can bleed.

It’s a good idea to have it checked out but no reason to have a knee jerk reaction and assume cancer. Hemorrhoids are a far more common cause of rectal bleeding than is cancer.

Re: Prep suggestions?

I always do the miralax prep. It’s the least horrible imo. You have to drink a half gallon of Gatorade but at least I can pick a good flavor and it doesn’t cramp me up.

Re: O/T question about Metastasis

As this is a colon cancer forum, most of us have very limited knowledge of other cancers. You will likely have better luck if you can find a forum with people who have your type of cancer. My mother had leptomeningeal disease from leukemia. She had a port inserted into her brain to deliver chemo dir...

Re: O/T - my furbaby has cancer....hard last weekend

I wept for days over the loss of our guinea pig a few weeks ago. She was 7 which in guinea pig years is about 129. We lost a car in 2015 at the age of 15. Our pets are very important to us. Even a little rodent. They are family members. I couldn’t live in a home without animals though even if it so ...

I’m 10 years out from a stage 2 right sided colon cancer that I did not do chemo for. 10 years ago, I heard right sided cancer was a better diagnosis. Data changes. IMO every case is different.

Re: Total or partial

Once it’s gone, it’s gone. It seems drastic to take the whole colon. I had a second resection and chose to preserve as much colon as possible. I have about a third of my colon. My grandfather had a total colectomy and had a lot of issues.
