Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

So question about the HAI pump... can you still receive your regular chemo treatments while you have the pump? Could you have colon or rectal surgery while the pump is installed? Yes, you get chemo in the pump (FUDR), which incidentally has almost zero side effects since it goes straight to the liv...

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

Sounds like a blessing in disguise! You were out of the woods after nine months! Congratulations!! No kidding! My right hemicolectomy was done within hours on the day that I was diagnosed, thanks to a blockage and fear of the swollen and stressed colon upstream perforating. Every detectable bit of ...

And I read on another thread that you can't get an HAI pump if you've undergone radiation? Is this true? If so, why?

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

I had my 3rd round of chemo (oxaliplatin) yesterday. My oncologist reduced the dose by 30% this time, because the previous time, I had horrific acute side effects. This time, I'm feeling a lot better. No diarrhea (but I proactively took lomotil and Imodium), eyes stinging when they tear up, sensiti...

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

Sadly, I believe many oncologists just go through the motions when the tumors are inoperable and don't pursue aggressive treatment like I think they should in some cases. Fortunately I was operable and didn't need the pump, but if I were in your situation, I would DEFINITELY pursue one. I spoke to ...

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

Go right away for the pump like the others have said! I got mine put in on 3/6/19 . I was originally supposed to have a partial liver resection at the same time but they found an additional 20 tumors the scans didn’t show when they went in fora total of 27 tumors. My surgeon (Dr.Kingham) at MSK clo...

..."Ok, I'll talk to her on Wednesday when I go in for chemo." ... Hi Tina - Good luck on your talk with the oncologist. You could use this as an opportunity ask her for help in filling out the missing data items for your signature. Here is a preliminary draft of your signature: F 45, DX:...

Not that I'm in any way qualified to answer your question, but I think that it's always best to err on the side of safety.

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

...So the obvious question, everyone, is how long does a person need to be off of chemo before the side effects stop? I have no idea. I have been off chemo now for over 6 years, and I still have to watch what I eat very closely. I have a long list of "forbidden" foods that I don't eat any...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

I'm always so weirded out by my port. I worry that it will move around when I sleep on it. I feel like a cyborg with this thing in me, and it hurts when my kids hug me too hard, and it itches sometimes (why? I have no idea. The scar is two months old now), and I just don't fully trust it. And that's...

Re: How crucial is the HAI pump?

Ok! Thanks so much for the feedback!! Any reason for me not to do it at City of Hope (much closer to me) instead of MSK? Do you think the doctors at City of Hope wouldn't be as good? Would I need a referral from my oncologist to go to either City of Hope or MSK? And also, I have Medi-Cal insurance. ...

Re: Diarrhea and bloating and gas, oh my!

Thanks, guys. What's a DVT? Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is a blood clot that forms in a vein deep in the body. Most deep vein clots occur in the lower leg or thigh. If the vein swells, the condition is called thrombophlebitis. A deep vein thrombosis can break loose and cause a serious problem in ...
