Re: Cimetidine anyone know how many months / years to take ?

The cited stat was "correct" in that there was a study with those numbers. If I read the research on this topic correctly, though, the tagamet effects are restricted to a small group of crc patients whose guts had certain acid-related characteristics (that I assume made them more prone to ...

Re: CTCA-- Food for Thought

No surprises.

To some degree, you want to find a doctor who has "terrible stats" - why? Because this means that the complicated cases drift his or her way.

Few need an oncologist who specializes in Stage I.

Re: SCANXIETY Discussions Enter Here - Ongoing

Good luck to all. I hear ya. Scanxiety doesn't help anything, but it is most certainly hard to control and it does suck all color and texture from life when it swings out of control. My husband is three years out now, which is great. Scans and scopes still make us both a wee bit crazy (ok, very craz...

Re: Wives of Stage III husbands!

You're all obviously a lot stronger than me as I always seem to be (Secretly) terrified and/or in tears! We are so early into a life after chemo and all I just want to do is see into the future. I'm struggling really... I don't know about you all but I've also 'lost' some people who I thought were ...

Re: How long after finishing chemo do you start to feel bett

Aluvscats: From a combo of places, including the research fellow inthe onc's office (and the onc did ask about pt at the last visit), a ny times article from way back when, and an old injury of mine that involved lots of pt in my 30s and our osteopathic-leaning pt neighbor. My husband has a bit of a...

Re: How long after finishing chemo do you start to feel bett

From my experience, it comes and goes as far as energy levels. There were times, even several months after chemo ended, that I just wanted to lay in bed all weekend and watch TV. It drove my husband crazy because I wasn't back to my normal self, even after all of my treatments were done. When we we...

Mazel tov, Kathryn!

Here's to your next milestone, so that you can continue to inspire.

And congrats to your son (who must be extremely tall since he makes you look to be a shorty)

Re: OT: Overall Cancer Incidence 24% Greater from CT scans

Can't speak to the numbers, but yes it is true that cancer treatment increases the probability of other cancers. As my husband's radio-onc said when we worried about that "but you have cancer now." We are just going to do our best to minimize the number of scans, balanced with appropriate ...

Re: stage 1 with lymphovascular invasion?

Sorry. I hope the experts chime in, but I think it is time for a second opinion. The purpose is not because I doubt that doctor, but because you want to be sure he is a good one (and this is pretty standard advice). Your surgery should be done by a board certified colorectal surgeon, or if not, then...

Re: Oxaliplatin

Serious drug with serious effects. If he had to do it again, he would make the same choice. Most patients stop before 12 rounds, and my husband was no exception. Monitor effects and taper off as needed. Yes, there have been long run effects on my husband. Numbness in extremities but no pain. Some co...

Re: Radiation or not?

It is not unheard of to have the radiation after surgery. Before is preferred, in general, but sometimes it is only after surgery and pathology reports that the "need" for radiation is clear. My husband had radiation after 8 rounds of folfox, at which point he switched to xeloda (he was DO...

Re: Rectal cancer spread to lymph nodes

Have you talked to the doctor about the hiccups? It is a common side effect of dex, one of the drugs your father probably took to help tolerate the chemo. I also suggest you ask the doctor about reglan, which can help.

Good luck to all. Scan week is always rough.

Wishing everyone boring scans since boring is about as good as it gets.
