Re: how to be "in it together"

" in it together" is easier said than done. In 2007 I was a single man and just got on with it. I don't report on this much but my current partner was diagnosed Colon Stage IV with mets to liver , ovaries and breast bone in March I have learnt not to try to micromanage her treatment. There...

Re: Anyone have weight loss surgery after cancer??

The problem is that your metabolism goes into overdrive during chemo and slows down when chemo stops.
Be very careful of your blood glucose levels. You have probably had a fair dose of dexamethasone during chemo and are at high risk of T2 diabetes.

Re: Oxiplatin and 5fu pump..... Last chance.

It was only after the 12th cycle of Oxi that I developed neuropathy simultaneously in hands and feet. My SO developed it in her hands ( but not the feet) after 9 rounds of chemo. The 10th cycle has been 5FU and Avastin only. It does take many cycles for neuropathy to develop and I believe for patien...

Re: NED's are you following a diet & exercising or living your life as before?

After I completed chemo I'm afraid I reverted to my old ways. In June 2011 I was diagnosed T2 diabetic ( another dex victim). I started walking, watched my carb intake , lost 20kg and got control of my blood sugars. Whether any of this has made a difference to my long term survival I don't know , bu...

Happy birthday mac.
The story improves with the retelling.
I've always had trouble seeking out help from others, even though I know the benefit is mutual.
Looking forward to hearing from you next year.

Re: Calling all JULY birthdays

I turn 65 on July 19. I have no immediate plans to retire as I've been "self employed " since 1977 and I can't think of anything better to do instead. Engineering is a bit like that.

Re: Cea

My SO had a baseline of 18,000.
I nearly fell off the chair when I heard that. Our oncologist had never seen one that high. After 5 cycles of Folfox + Avastin it was down to 2900.

Re: Why I stopped posting

At the moment I really don't have the time to engage but I feel I should put my 2 cents worth in. I am a long term member and personally am travelling along quite well. Over the years I have learnt a lot, mostly so that I could have a plan B and C in place if needed. In March my SO was diagnosed Sta...

Re: Help! Just starting on Dad's recent IIIC diagnosis

That's a pretty heavy duty chemo , particularly for a 77 year old. No-one else has mentioned this but if Oxi is scheduled, perhaps it could be 8 cycles with Oxi and 4 without. This is common practice these days. Side effects from chemo can vary significantly with chemo. I worked all the way through ...

Re: Kidneys during treatment

Kidney failure from Oxi is not that uncommon. I see a Renal Specialist for diabetic CKD ( despite maintaining an A1c < 6.0 for over 3 years. The same specialist nonchalantly advised me that after completing 12 cycles of Folfox that I had probably lost 20% kidney function from that alone ( though I h...

Re: Wasn't I enough

Hello all. Thank you all for the kind words. Especially my old friends from back in 2008. I've laid low because really there has been nothing adverse happening. After the dramas following the 1st cycle, the 2nd and 3rd cycles have passed without event. Chrissies daughter arrived at the right time bu...

Re: New here: Wife with Stage 4 colon cancer

Bernie I'm still learning about Stage IV but my SO has just completed Cycle 2 of Folfox + Avastin. The second cycle has been much easier than the 1st. You'll learn as you go. Canadiandaughter I'm rather alarmed at the high bg levels of your father. I'm assuming that he is T2. From my observations on...

Re: My mind is reeling, please help me slow it down.

You must take care of yourself first . And so should your DH.
You may be surprised that neither of you will be compromised.
