Re: Just diagnosed with rectal cancer and terrified

Welcome Jessica, We know what you're experiencing. It's absolutely terrifying. I had the same thing, bleeding. Rectal and colon cancers are tough because there are little to no symptoms, so don't go kicking yourself for thinking you missed something. I never in a million years thought younger people...

Re: Feeling really sad and in need of support

Hi VeggieLvr, Please don't ever feel bad about posting a topic that is sad or not upbeat. There's nothing happy or fantastic about a cancer diagnosis or treatment. It's sucks. All of it. This is such a hard time. I echo some of the other's comments about switching to Xeloda instead of the pump, you ...

Re: Stage 2- no follow up care???

I echo what others have said. Stage II is kind of a grey area for treatment, but he should at least be referred to an Oncologist to talk about options.

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I feel like it's time for me to add to this thread :D . It's been 5 years! Was diagnosed at 40, stage IIIC as you can see by my signature. Had my latest CT scan in April and still all clear. I do have to have another colonoscopy soon, BUTT happy to be here and give some positivity to all of you newl...

I have no words, reading this right now I am at a loss. My only thoughts are 'Eric, you will be deeply missed' and that statement just isn't adequate.

...such a loss...

Re: Anyone on XELOX and working?

As I'm sure you've seen, everyone has different experiences. I worked full time (for the most part) throughout treatment. With Xelox being every 3 weeks, I think (personally) that's easier than Folfox (every other week) as you have more time in between to feel like yourself. For me, each infusion I ...

Re: What to expect?

So sorry that you had to join, but welcome. My GI doctor told me to get a CT scan of my pelvis area. Then my oncologist had me get a CT scan of my chest area in addition to an MRI of the pelvis. All with and without contrast. I am on a high deductible insurance plan, and those three tests cost me ov...

Re: Very concerned 31/yo female

I know how scared you are. Make sure you get that colonoscopy. With a history of bleeding - it should be a no brainer. I'm sure the chances that it's hemorrhoids or a fissure is way more likely, but you want to rule out anything else. Most times these cancers are slow growing and you can't change th...

Re: Oxaliplatin side effects

The lip numbness happened to me, the not swallowing happened to me twice (not counting the 2 times I accidentally drank something not room temp or warmer), the last time was in the infusion room walking out of my 5th infusion, I took a breath in and my throat seized. Told my Onc later and he cancell...

Re: Xeloda for Stage II - did you work?

Menreq - I would think it's doable, although I wasn't on the monotherapy, I was stage IIIC, took Xeloda for 5.5 weeks during radiation and took Xeloda with Oxi (Xelox) for 6 rounds. I worked full time, not one day off during radiation. I had zero problems from the Xeloda, the Oxi kicked my butt and ...

Re: Products must have list for Chemo

If she's just doing Xeloda & radiation (no infusion), honestly that chemo, for me, was a cake walk. I didn't have any side effects. The radiation is likely going to be harder. Biggest thing is lotion lotion lotion - EVERYWHERE - after each radiation treatment and each night. And when I say every...

Re: PREP GETS HARDER TO TOLERATE

I told my doc a couple of colonoscopies ago that I would never drink that golytley stuff again, so don't bother trying to make me. They gave me Suprep and it was really pretty easy. Not a lot to drink (just one dose that you can chug in one sitting, followed by regular water and then later in the da...

Re: Things people say or don't say but it's okay

Yes, absolutely presuming that an unhealthy lifestyle CAUSED CRC. Given the likelihood, as shown by the links (not internet related use of the term) evidenced in studies such as those cited, if a person does not have a genetic SNP, then my opinion is that it probably is safe to assume. An exception...

Re: 38 yr old wants colonoscopy, doctor declined

Do not take no for an answer. My bleeding was blamed on "hemorrhoids" too - luckily my doc took it seriously and after a month when the bleeding didn't stop but got worse referred me directly to a colorectal surgeon. Diagnosed shortly thereafter as stage IIIC rectal cancer @ 40. I had only...

Re: first Folfox - delayed reaction?

No expert here, but could be the steroids wearing off. My first round I didn't feel too bad, but the steroids really made me want to claw off my skin - second round they cut the steroid in half and immediately I felt terrible.
